Here in the states, the Motive TV show can hardly be called a ratings success. However, it’s doing well enough in Canada for CTV to renew it for a third season. Production resumes this fall.
Motive revolves around a strong-willed Vancouver detective (Kristin Lehman) who’s also a single mom. At the start of each episode, viewers are shown the killer and victims. As the criminal investigation progresses, details of what led to the crime are revealved via flashbacks. The rest of the cast includes Louis Ferreira, Lauren Holly, Roger Cross, Brendan Penny, and Cameron Bright.
Though last summer’s ratings weren’t very good, ABC picked up the 13 episodes of season two and they started airing last week. Season two’s ratings have been even worse and it’s currently the network’s lowest-rated summer show.
ABC only licenses the show so it’s cheaper for them than producing their own summer dramas. Could the ratings be poor enough this year so that it wouldn’t make sense for them to air the show, even at a low cost? We shall see.

I too enjoy this show. Love they give the killer and victim at the beginning and how they back into the motive. Very entertaining and interesting at the same time.
Hope ABC will renew. As said earlier, it may be missing sex and violence, but that makes for some incredible television.

I absolutely love Motive. It’s so different than any other show and the actors are awesome. Flynn and Vega are great together and I look forward to watching this show every week. PLEASE DON’T CANCEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It would be a shame not to bring Motive back – it’s a smart, well acted show, and one that our family GREATLY anticipates watches watching each week. ABC, do American viewers a favor and renew this show!

I think Motive has one of the most interesting premise of any crime drama on television. It borders on true crime noir. Of course lacks the sex and violence that some more popular crime dramas, but this show is one of the best kept secrets on television. Great acting, suspenseful, I just can’t see how it has such low ratings. I would hate to see this show go! It is one of my favorites!
We love Motive. It’s well written and well acted. The police act like the professionals they are and the concept keeps you guessing on the MOTIVE. Please don’t cancel.
So glad CTV here in Canada has picked up season 3 of Motive. Not only is it a great show, but it is filmed close to my home and I love seeing places I know!
Absolutely love MOTIVE and will be extremely disappointed if it is not renewed for a third season. In my opinion, one of the best TV shows to come out in recent years. Excellent acting, characters and plot lines. Keep up the good work !
