The second season of Mozart in the Jungle was just released on Amazon on December 30th. Star Gael Garcia Bernal recently spoke with Indiewire about why he took the role, season two, and what he’d like to see in a season three.
Garcia Bernal plays Rodrigo de Souza, a new, renegade conductor at the New York Symphony.
Speaking to Indiewire, Bernal said if there’s a season three, they can explore more areas of the classical music world. Already, the show has expanded from just the New York City classical music scene. In season two, the series takes a trip to Mexico City, Garcia Bernal’s own hometown.
Garcia Bernal, on a possible third season:
Well, I mean this time we toured Latin America. Definitely, we need to tour all the world. We need to tour Europe. I would love to– There’s many worlds of music that we haven’t touched. We haven’t done Bach. And that’s complicated. Bach is a world of surprises. And we haven’t done Chopin. We haven’t done many of the Baroques, who are very complicated. And we haven’t done opera. So, maybe.”
Additionally, he mentioned the show hasn’t even touched upon Chamber music or focused on a single pianist—all possible subjects for a future season:
And still from the classical time or the romantic time…I mean the neo-classical…there’s just so much that we haven’t done. We’ve tried to have a piano concerto but then we changed it to a violin concerto. We haven’t done a pianist. And that’s going to be interesting as well. … I’m just thinking stuff. There’s so many ways to go still. So many ways to go. Chamber music, as well. We haven’t done it. It’s always nice to have four instruments. Five instruments.”
All 10 episodes of season two are currently available on Amazon.
What do you think? Are you a fan of Mozart in the Jungle? Have you started watching season two? What would you like to see happen in a third season?
Love everything about this show!!!!!!!!! Please keep the magic going
Just had a marathon weekend searching first two seasons of Mozart in the Jungle. This series was wonderful in so many ways. Smart dialogue. The chemistry between all the characters was great. I do not watch TV. But I was hooked after the first episode. When is the third season due our?!!
I love this show. Please continue the series, but with less sex and more music.
Love this show! Puh-leeze continue the series. It’s so smart, funny and mesmerizing visually. What do we have to do to get Amazon to begin season 3???
Truly a joy to watch each episode. I will repeat seasons one and two while awaiting season 3.
Both my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed every episode of Mozart in the Jungle. As classical music lovers we are also aware of the financial constraints that orchestra’s are finding themselves in so this series was excellent in portraying the “real-life” aspect of the orchestra members. We are in total agreement with the one commentator who wrote below that 30-minutes are far too short. Also please produce more of this quality of series and dispose of the cheap and ugly nonsense that is passed to viewers as prime time TV entertainment. The TV is full of people telling us, they… Read more »
Absolutely loved everything about Mozart in The Jungle…quite magical !!
Loved this series, superb acting, great characters, beautiful music and excellent script! Season 3 please 🙂
I loved every note. Season 3 please
Mozart in the Jungle lets audiences have a look into a world that rarely has any coverage on this media. Classical music encloses a magical & elegantly diverse world that general audiences deserve to be part of (even if it is only as spectators). Thank you for bringing better choices . Enough of reality shows and bad sitcoms. I would love to see a world tour and more of Bernardette Peters’ incredible voice into the show. I love Gael Garcia Bernal as Rodrigo. It is refreshing to a see a Latin American actor as a protagonist. He is talented, charming… Read more »
Mozart in the jungle is one of the classiest drama i have seen with all actors
doing superb work. hope you bring the third season soon, can’t wait to see it
Absolutely love the program and the characters. Hated to see season 2 end.
I love a show about the arts. Just finished Season 2 (In one day mind you) and was sad knowing that a Season 3 hasn’t been scheduled. It’s great, whimsical, talented. Gael Garcia Bernal is great as Rodrigo, Lola Kirke is cute and fun, bringing quirkiness to her character. Yes, bring it back!
Two of the most wonderful days of my recent life. You have transcended the world that we exist in into a wonderful 20 episodes full of real life, love in every respect, and music that the world needs now more than ever.
Do not even consider not renewing season three as you will take from us something that we need to replenish our souls and fill our minds with the possibilities that you have brought to life.
Amazon: Please don’t stop now! “Mozart in the Jungle” is one of the best shows on television. Good cast! Beautiful music! Great story! More, please.
