The body count grows. The Murder in the First TV show has been cancelled after three seasons on TNT. Steven Bochco’s procedural drama series, starring Taye Diggs and Kathleen Robertson, just wrapped its third season in September.
The Murder in the First TV series cast also includes: Corey Reynolds, Michael Gaston, Sara Paxton, Raphael Sbarge, Lombardo Boyar, Ian Anthony Dale, Currie Graham, and Mimi Kirkland. Bochco, for his part, is working on a reboot of LA Law.
The Hollywood Reporter cites a ratings decline as the reason TNT chose to cancel Murder in the First. Here is more, from THR:
The decision hardly comes as a surprise for the cop drama starring Taye Diggs and Kathleen Robertson and co-created by Bochco and Eric Lodal. The series wrapped its three-season run Sept. 4 with just more than 1 million viewers — down considerably from its series debut of 3 million-plus.
The determination to cancel the drama, produced in-house, comes as TNT topper Kevin Reilly has been looking to refocus the cabler toward edgier fare. Gone is veteran Rizzoli & Isles and in its place are series like Michele Dockery entry Good Behavior and the adaptation of Animal Kingdom.
Murder was one of a dwindling number of scripted originals that were greenlighted before Reilly’s arrival at TNT. Still remaining are Major Crimes and Eric Dane starrer The Last Ship.
We have been tracking the ratings for Murder in the First, season three, and our numbers jibe with THR‘s analysis. The third season of Murder in the First averaged 0.23 in the 18-49 year old viewer demographic, and drew an average total audience of 1.367 million viewers.

I just re-watched this show and I don’t get why it was canceled. Yeah, yeah ratings blah blah. It was a good show and it ended very poorly. There were too many loose ends, not the least of which was Mario Siletti, Currie Graham. It was obvious the show was not meant to end after Season 3. It’s sad the show was canceled and now it’s too late to do anything about it. Bummer.
Please bring the show back. I loved it and the abrupt no more was not nice.

crazy!! I kept looking for it to re-appear and just found out it was cancelled. Seems like all the good, well thought out shows are disappearing and all we have left is ridiculous so called reality junk.
My niece and I are BIG fans of Murder in the First! We recently became aware that the show has been cancelled! How SAD! The acting and writing was superb and we will definitely miss this show!

I was searching for season four and found it had been cancelled. The show reminded me of cop shows from the 70s which were more thought provoking and related to real life situations. LOVED Murder in the First. I think Kathleen Robertson is very talented, as well as her co-star Taye Diggs. BRING IT BACK!
