Jessica Fletcher and Angela Lansbury devotees can rest easy. NBC isn’t moving forward with their proposed reboot of Murder, She Wrote — at least for now.
The new take on the classic series was supposed to revolve around a hospital administrator who’s also an amateur sleuth (Octavia Spencer) who self-publishes her first mystery novel and gets involved with various cases.
Though the network has chosen not to move forward, they aren’t giving up on the iodea. According to Deadline, execs want to approach the idea in a different way, possibly with a new concept.
This frees up Spencer who’s apparently become a very sought-after talent for upcoming pilot projects.
What do you think? Do you think a new Murder, She Wrote series could work? Under what circumstances?
I am glad they opted out, but I would love to see the new version with Octavia Spencer. Just re-name it. They did the same with Who’s the Boss when they re-booted it as Melissa and Joey.
I don’t care who they would’ve hired to star in the re-boot, but this is a bad idea. It’s hard for remakes of iconic shows to make it.
I totally agree with ludi66. What an idiotic idea… And where are all the NEW ideas?
seems like always trying to bring back good old stuff when can’t come up with new – I suppose you could call it a “new take on old stuff” … Murder She Wrote was good for a “gentler time” – she certainly wasn’t Bruce Willis type material – (Castle is funny, light, sort of entertaining) – I suppose I’d have to watch if this did get made, at least once – but can’t get real worked up over the idea of it…. been watching the old/early Law & Orders on–I think it’s Sundance – actually didn’t see it much way… Read more »
Good. The idea was silly and sorry a black Jessica Fletcher was…. even worse. If you want to do a remake only one person can do it and that is Angela Lansbury…and we would love that!
