Not long after the TV ratings came in for last Thursday night’s episode of My Generation, the show was cancelled by ABC. To the dismay of many viewers, the series was pulled from the schedule immediately and ultimately replaced by repeats of Grey’s Anatomy. Will viewers ever get to see the remaining episodes? How many are there anyway?
My Generation follows a group of twenty-somethings who were part of a documentary while in high school. Ten years after graduation, the filmmaker returns to see how their lives have changed. The ABC series stars Julian Morris, Keir O’Donnell, Kelli Garner, Mehcad Brooks, Michael Stahl-David, Anne Son, Daniella Alonso, Jaime King, and Sebastian Sozzi.
With such a large ensemble cast, you would think that many would comment about the cancellation. That hasn’t happened. For the most part, the stars have all been pretty silent, perhaps by request of the network and/or the producers. The one exception has been King. Earlier this week she tweeted, “Thanks to all for supporting My Generation! I hope there will be a way for all of u to see the rest of the amazing shows we made! Xx” Responding to a comment from an upset viewer, King commiserated, “it is frustrating sometimes.”
Shortly after the cancellation news broke, Lone Star creator Kyle Killen playfully tweeted to My Generation creator Noah Hawley, “condolences. we should have a beer and compare third episodes.” A few days later, Hawley responded by simply writing, “done.”
Hawley has offered brief updates on the show. On Monday, he wrote, “Saw most of the cast last night. My understanding is we’ll be finishing the 8 existing episodes for release online or DVD.” He later added, “We would say more, but it’s not our style.” Last night, Hawley indicated that discussions about releasing the six unaired installments were ongoing.
Considering the abrupt cancellation, it’s highly unlikely that the cast and crew were able to wrap up the show’s many storylines.
What do you think? Would you like to see the remaining episodes of My Generation? Would you consider buying a DVD of the series? Would you like the producers to hear about what would have happened?

This Sucks!! Every time I start to get into an ABC show they cancell it.
I think they should bring back October roads
I was really excited about the show since the first time I saw the trailer for it. I’m definitely upset that they cancelled it. I really hope that they put the episodes online so that we can see the rest of them.
i am so sad they cacelled this show!!!! i loved it !
I think the problem was that it was up against Community and 30 rock on NBC, Big Bang and (the should be cancelled) **** my dad says on CBS and Bones on Fox. The thursday competition is tough, with a lot of established shows. I think it was advertised plenty. I knew a lot about it.
I thought this was the best new show out there! Very disappointed that it was canceled.
I am sooo pissed off right now! I loved this show and to cancel it after only 2 airings?? are you serious ABC.. You keep this desperate housewives ish on TV but when a REAL, believable drama comes along you cancel it… thats why my family and I NEVER watch ABC becuase all the shows are alike. i mean how many f’in hospital dramas must 1 channel have. I’m so disappointed with ABC..but as the name stands for “A-nother B-ad C-hoice”…. just stupid!!!
I’m also from the class of 2000 and loved this show. ABC needs to realize there making a HUGE mistake… this makes me sad :(.
Great show sad to see it go. They always take awasy the good ones.
I’m SO upset that they cancelled this show!! I thought the story line was very exciting and creative, and couldn’t wait to see how their lives played out. I really hope that they’ll (somehow) bring it back or at least put them online and/or DVD. =(
this is ********. i really got into the show and i was looking forward to watching it tonight. the only reasons were so bad because there was not enough advertisements. ABC really makes me angry sometimes >.<
This show had all the makings of an accomplished, well written series…sadly it was “killed” way too soon to develop. ABC panics and acts too quickly…why do the viewers realize this but the empty suits who run the place do not. I think one of the best series I have seen in a long time was “Eli Stone” which they axed prematurely. Cast of My Generation: Congratulations for a job well done, you managed to attract millions of us.
REALLY DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a great show… ABC should consider bringing it back! Give it a chance….
Admittedly I never thought this show had much potential, but ABC makes a habit of canceling many good shows: Flash Forward, Happy Town, and The Deep End to name a few.
I loved this show! It was the first show I actually got into. I’m very disappointed. I don’t think they did a good enough job of advertising it. The only commercial I saw for this show was at the midnight premiere of Inception. I was hooked right when I saw the commercial.
