Though it was promoted ad nauseum during the coverage of the Summer Olympics, NBC could find few friends for their My Own Worst Enemy series. The TV show has been cancelled after airing just four episodes.
My Own Worst Enemy follows the strange life of Henry Spivey (Christian Slater), a hum-drum suburbanite with a wife and two kids (played by Madchen Amick, Taylor Lautner, and Bella Thorne). Unknown to Henry and his loved ones, he has a dual identity as a secret operative and trained killer named Edward Albright.
Edward works for a superspy organization under supervisor Mavis Heller (Alfre Woodard) and is partnered with friend and fellow operative Tom Grady/Raymond Carter (Mike O’Malley). Others in the series include Omid Abtahi, Saffron Burrows, James Cromwell, Sarai Givaty, Mark Ivanir, Mindy Sterling, Missy Yager, Eugenia Yuan, and Louis Giambalvo.
The show debuted on October 13, 2008 on NBC. Despite a lot of high-profile promotion, the premiere attracted only 7.27 million viewers and a 3.0/8 rating/share in the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers dropped to 5.69 million and a 2.6/6. The most recent episode hit a low of 4.27 million and 1.8/5. Though Heroes has been struggling this season, Worst Enemy has been losing over 40% of its lead-in audience and more than that in the key demographic.

NBC has announced that they are cancelling the series following the completion of its ninth episode. It’s been confirmed that the network plans to continue to air the series until all of the episodes have been shown.
If Worst Enemy goes uninterrupted, the series finale should air on December 15th, the same night as Heroes’ so-called “fall finale.” Because of the abrupt cancellation, fans of Worst Enemy aren’t expected to be given any kind of conclusion to the show’s ongoing storylines. That’s enough to make even mild-mannered Henry angry. Stay tuned!

Please don’t take it off!!!
I love this show -please don’t cancel it!
I cannot believe that you are canceling My Own Worst Enemy! My husband encouraged my to watch the show and I was hooked from the beginning. I was immediately drawn in by the intriguing storyline, talented cast, and psychological delima between Henry and Edward. I am a busy 30-something working mom who doesn’t have time for television. I make time for My Own Worst Enemy. It is first on my list above Heros, Life, House and Bones. NBC is tossing away a hit show. Give it a fair chance by moving the show to a different timeslot. The show has… Read more »
The concept of the series was flawed to begin with. I never watched it and never planned to.
There are little left towards watching any tv from the big 3 broadcasting stations. NBC, CBS and ABC, they do not allow a show to gain an audience before axing them. The worst enemy for “My own worst enemy” has to be some suit who has never seen the show probably the same person who cancelled Journeyman last year. If the broadcasting companies show no loyalty to its shows and its viewers, Why should we show them any loyalty. The way i see it long live dvd’s and reruns because that is all we will have left.
Please do not cancel this show! I have not watched tv shows for years because they have been so dissapointing! But finally a show I loved and it’s axed! I just want to know why! You people at NBC are the reason ratings were low! Because you gave it a crummy time slot and a crummy night of the week! It was in competrion with Monday night football, and on at a bad time for family viewing! How are families with small children going to tune in? I feel that there are smut shows on, when kids could be watching!… Read more »
I agree with Alexandra. I loved Moonlight and I am still hoping by some miracle it will come back. Now I have become a fan of My Own Worst Enemy and Lipstick Jungle and they are going away too! I guess I need to look on the bright side… it won’t take as long to go through my DVR. Kinda makes you afraid to get attached to a show until the second season when you know whether or not it is coming back.
Please don’t cancel this show. Its a great show, I have been waiting all summer for it to air. What a mistake , Christian Slater does a great job. Change the time slot if you think that is an issue. Please please reconsider!
My Own Worst Enemy is the only decent new show on network TV this year. Realty shows live forever, but a decent show with great writing and great acting gets cancelled after 4 episodes. USA and TNT can create hit dramas, but the networks don’t even give their shows a fighting chance. I also loved Journeyman which was quickly cancelled. Maybe USA or TNT will pick up these shows.
ok i seriously think theres something wrong with cbs…. first moonlight… then the ex list and right after that this show… it was just getting good!!!!!!!!! i was waiting for this show for forever and now its cancelled just like i was waiting forever for my two other fav shows you cancelled!!! what the **** people!!!!! those guys are seriously all wrong about what people think about these shows!! they base their shows on what the review paople think!! they dont even care about any individual things!!! half of the people who review just do it cause it pays well!!… Read more »
I am really disappointed in NBC not sticking it out for this GREAT “New” Show
tisk, tisk NBC you’re letting me down 🙁
[…] news for any Christian Slater fans. NBC has cancelled “My Own Worst Enemy” A total of nine episodes have been produced and will air as planned [as of this post, the first […]
I love this show!!! I REALLY LOVE CHRISTIAN SLATER!!! He Is The BEST ACTOR ON T.V!!! He Is Also THE SEXIEST!!!! Please DO NOT CANCEL IT!!!!!!
Well, NBC strikes again. I will not watch another month of episodes of this great show and get any more involved in the plot if they are going to toss it. They’ll likely replace it with another dumb reality show, because they’re inexpensive.
Off to delete it from the Season Pass Manager.
Yep its Journeyman all over. Why don’t they give these shows a chance. As someone said shows that make you think take time to gather a crowd or buzz. Canceling after only 4 episodes is ridicoulus. I am threw wating time with TV, especially NBC. I will instead invest in cable TV shows like Dexter and True Blood which cater to adults and not kids who will buy ****. Goodbye, TV wasteland.
