Though it was promoted ad nauseum during the coverage of the Summer Olympics, NBC could find few friends for their My Own Worst Enemy series. The TV show has been cancelled after airing just four episodes.
My Own Worst Enemy follows the strange life of Henry Spivey (Christian Slater), a hum-drum suburbanite with a wife and two kids (played by Madchen Amick, Taylor Lautner, and Bella Thorne). Unknown to Henry and his loved ones, he has a dual identity as a secret operative and trained killer named Edward Albright.
Edward works for a superspy organization under supervisor Mavis Heller (Alfre Woodard) and is partnered with friend and fellow operative Tom Grady/Raymond Carter (Mike O’Malley). Others in the series include Omid Abtahi, Saffron Burrows, James Cromwell, Sarai Givaty, Mark Ivanir, Mindy Sterling, Missy Yager, Eugenia Yuan, and Louis Giambalvo.
The show debuted on October 13, 2008 on NBC. Despite a lot of high-profile promotion, the premiere attracted only 7.27 million viewers and a 3.0/8 rating/share in the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers dropped to 5.69 million and a 2.6/6. The most recent episode hit a low of 4.27 million and 1.8/5. Though Heroes has been struggling this season, Worst Enemy has been losing over 40% of its lead-in audience and more than that in the key demographic.

NBC has announced that they are cancelling the series following the completion of its ninth episode. It’s been confirmed that the network plans to continue to air the series until all of the episodes have been shown.
If Worst Enemy goes uninterrupted, the series finale should air on December 15th, the same night as Heroes’ so-called “fall finale.” Because of the abrupt cancellation, fans of Worst Enemy aren’t expected to be given any kind of conclusion to the show’s ongoing storylines. That’s enough to make even mild-mannered Henry angry. Stay tuned!

Don’t understand why NBC did not do 13 as promised, did they even think of all the people that will be out of work again………don’t know why they didn’t try to find a new time slot,
Come NBC give it a chance!!!
You know I was unsure of the show’s premise at first but I ended up becoming a fan of the show. Christian Slater did an excellent job as a man of split personalities, one a family orientated 9 to 5ver, the other a ruthless secret agent. Slater totally sold me on the show. But you know just like Journeyman when a show is good but doesn’t pull in the same amount of viewers as the brain-dead fluff which is “reality TV” well the network execs cancel it. Seriously TV is becoming completely unwatchable. Just another example of how greed destroys… Read more »
Naturally… NBC has sunk faster than the other networks because it forgets that people like a good story which MOWE is. lets try another winning reality show. Let’s call it “fat people loose weight, borrow babies, work the toughest job imitating hell’s kitchen, or trying out for the musical grease.” Not a single original thought in the lot of the exec’s at nbc. here’s an original idea. a guy lives a dual identity where his father/husband persona is beneficial to his other existence. might make normal guy’s feel good about what they are. Too bad that the truly unoriginal idea… Read more »
I agree with Carrie (Nov 15) when she says that intelligent viewers will find it. The problem is that the networks for so long have catered to an audience of “dumbed down” viewers. Along comes a show with some imagination and suddenly they’re talking about cancelling it. Come on NBC execs. LET IT RIDE! It’s an entertaining show.
so what are we supposed to watch at 10 pm you network bozos should realize that there is nothing on to watch and you will put on more reality garbage give the viewers the show and let the ratings grow the seinfeld era is over dudes no one gets good ratings anymore
I’m so bummed this show is getting cancelled! I love Christian Slater, he’s a great actor and the show was just getting good! I’m only 16 years old but I fell in love with this show from episode one. Too bad its getting canceled, this REALLY sucks!!

This is a most different show to watch for sure. Too complicated for Network TV. This certanly belongs on USA along with Monk, Psych, and Burn Notice.
This show deserves life!
I’m absolutely shocked that NBC is canceling My Own Worst Enemy!! I finally got into a GREAT storyline and the carpet gets yanked out from underneath me. Please give it another chance. It certainly deserves it. Christian Slater is amazing in this role!!
I just came across this very upsetting news. I was excited to see Christian Slater in something new, and this show fills up the void there has been since Alias left the air. It is an excellent show, and deserves to stick around longer than what did they say only 9 episodes?!?!?!?!?!
I can’t believe they’re canceling such a great show. There’s finally something worth watching other than reality TV and they’re gonna dump it??? Wake up networks – you may not realized it but you’re going to start losing a lot of viewers. And guess what —–that’s a reality!!!!!!!
I really like MOWE, as I did journeyman. Who would watch the final 5 episodes if the show is going to be canceled after that?
I’ll never commit to a 10pm show again as it stands little chance, especially up against MNF
In an era of dramatic game shows and reality shows filling up prime time, it was refreshing to see shows like Life On Mars and My Own Worst Enemy. Both shows, while not completely believable are entertaining, and almost a throwback to the good tv shows from the 70s. And after just 4 shows, they are cancelling MOWE? Are they out of their minds? This show has all the makings of a CULT-Hit, if they market it right and give it a chance. ABC, USA, CBS, Fox? Anyone reading this? PICK UP THE SHOW. It deverves at least a full… Read more »
I love “My Own Worst Enemy”. Why cancel it without a full first season? Why not move it over to USA? Law and Order Criminal Intent is the best of the the three Law and Order shows and was moved over to USA.
Please dont take it off! its the only show i watch on nbc. the script is great, the acting is great, and the story runs smooth. plus did i forget to say its one heck of a show. please dont drop it.
Seriously!!! Are you kidding they did not even give the show a chance!!! It is an amazing show!!! Please do not cancel it!!!
