Happy trails. ABC has cancelled Nashville after four seasons, Deadline reports.
The country music drama, which stars Hayden Panettiere and Connie Britton, is currently nearing the end of its fourth season.
The cancellation comes as a bit of a surprise. Only a few weeks ago, we reported new showrunners Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz were getting the writer’s room ready for season five and hopeful ABC would renew the series.
However, ratings have dropped over the course of the show’s fourth season. So far, Nashville is earning an average rating of .98 in the 18-49 demo and 4.221 million viewers. Comparatively, the third season averaged a 1.34 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.16 million total viewers.
The season four, and now series, finale of Nashville airs on May 25th.
What do you think? Do you watch Nashville? Do you think the series should’ve been renewed?
Noooooo! Please don’t cancel Nashville! This show is one of the purest and relatable shows left! All the others are so far fetched from the truth! I live is LA and to escape the smokey glass and mirrors I watch Nashville as it is one of the purest shows out there!!!!
I enjoyed the show and was always looking for it to come on the tv.
My favorite show on TV. I love everything about it, the singing and the plot lines. I agree with Beth, the simpsons are still on and no one I know watches them. Someone else should pick it up. I will miss Deacon.
TV is cluttered with ridiculous “reality” shows and objectionable programming. Nashville is one of the few that is actually entertaining. It’s full of great musical talent and actually has a believable and interesting story line. I believe given another season you could really flesh out the Deacon and Mattie scenarios which are truly potential real life issues. Keep the good programming like Nashville and dump the trash.
I totally agree with everything that Beth said I would have said the same thing Love this show ABC may need to clean house else where
I love this show. I even went to see the live show in Atlanta less than 2 weeks ago. I love that it is a solid story to follow. Some of us do not like watching reality shows and some of the other silly 30 min programs that are on.
I am devastated about Nashville being cancelled. I watch it every week and LOVE IT! I love the cast the storyline and was even looking forward to going to see them while on tour. PLEASE DON’T cancel it!
I love this show, it is my favorite on tv. We have too many reality tv shows now, I hate those. I like a good show with a plot. This show has it all, good characters, better singer than you hear on CMT or on the radio and better songs. If nobody else picks up this series, it is just a shame. We need more shows like this and less reality shows. Heavens sakes the Simpsons is still on, has anyone ever watched that show??
I think its an awesome serial. Please do give them another season. The characters are very good.I hope the network gives them another season.
I love Nashville, it’s unlike any other show, it’s entertaining and you can’t help but love the characters. However. this season hasn’t been as good as the others, would have liked Reyna and Deacon to just be happy for a bit. Please if it has to end, let us see some of the couples end up with each other and let the daughter get her head together and come home…
As all GREAT Shows are there ratings go up and down. Nashville has always been an enjoyable show with all its turns and blunders. The music is great and the acting is best on ABC. NOW they going to cancel it after only four seasons. ABC is making a HUGE mistake. I only hope another network takes in on and keeps the show going. BAD ABC shame on you.
I think it can be saved but this season is not good. Too many bad feelings and raynas daughter whatshername is coming off as hateable and deacons situation is just too much and whered the missing girl go and scarlets cranky always…
Exactly why cancelling it now is so heartbreaking, they would have needed at least additional movie to wrap it up properly ;(
Just because its not as popular in the younger crowd does not mean the boomer crowd should be dismissed. Great show, great writing, great acting but by all means keep all the idiot bachelor shows. Stupid decision. I am going to stop watching tv.
PLEASE do not cancel! The story line of Maddie’s emancipation and what they’ve done to Deacon are the only things I haven’t liked about the show. The music and casting is great. pLease tell me that there is a chance that they will reconsider and bring back another season?
One of the only shows I watch. With ABC ending Nashville is very depressing. Nashville has a great cast. My daughter and I kept up with it every week. So sad.
