Last night, ABC unveiled their latest musical drama, Nashville. Did it reach new ratings highs or hit a sour note?
On Nashville, a legendary country music superstar (Connie Britton) sees that her popularity is starting to fade and has the opportunity to tour with a young and sexy up-and-comer (Hayden Panettiere). The TV show’s cast also includes Powers Boothe, Charles Esten, Eric Close, Clare Bowen, Jonathan Jackson, Sam Palladio, Robert Wisdom, and Judith Hoag.
Airing opposite NBC’s new Chicago Fire and CSI on CBS, Nashville’s first episode attracted a 2.8 in the 18-49 demographic with 8.98 million total viewers. It was first in its timeslot in the demo but second in viewers.
Year-to-year, compared to Revenge’s premiere in the same timeslot, the network was down by 15% in the demo (vs a 3.3 rating) and down by 10% in viewership (vs 10.02 million). This wasn’t a terrible start but, considering the glowing reviews, it was disappointing.
What do you think? Did you watch Nashville last night? Will you be watching next week? Live, via DVR, on-demand or online?
I just watched the Pilot and after 20 min. I had to turn it off. This show sucks. I hope the ratings get so low that they have to cancel this stupid ass show.
LOVE THIS SHOW and I don’t watch much TV. Story is interesting, can’t wait for the next episode, and the music is great. The song by the young shy blond girl that writes poetry and sang with the boy, was jaw dropping, I want it! As for the philanderers, manipulators and *itches, HELLO! It’s a TV show, it’s DRAMA, it’s not time for “Ozzie and Harriet” or “Donna Reed Show!” This show is a great escape from the trash of so many shows today, yes there are affairs going on and whatnot, but it’s a 10:00 PM show and it’s… Read more »
I think highly of Connie Britton as an actress but this show is not doing it for me. I can’t seem to care anything about the characters. The men are weak and the women have no depth. I do like the blonde young woman who works in the bar and love her voice but can’t get into the series at all.
This is the best show on tv in my view….LOVE IT!!
Loved it!
I usually don’t watch a new show right away just because the pilot episode is never enough to judge whether the entire season will be good or not. I have my Primetime Anytime feature set to record primetime of ABC every Wednesday night, and I’ve made a special folder to save new episodes of Nashville. After a few weeks, I’ll watch them all simultaneously and then decide if I’m going to continue watching the series.
Saw the previews and it didn’t provide any interest in watching. And horrors, country music to boot. Pass.
I thought the two lead women were a victim and a *****. The men weren’t any better, each of them were manipulators and philanderers. We find out that the victim has a child by someone other than her husband. Who can identify with these characters
I thought this show was a winner and I certainly intend on adding it to my live viewing schedule. The music blew me away especially the song “If I Didn’t Know Better”. The characters Scarlett and Gunnar are very appealing and their singing is hauntingly sexy. I have loved Connie Britton since “Friday Night Lights”. She is a terrific actress. The plot seems to have a lot of secrets from the past that should make for exciting storytelling. With the popularity of country music this should be a ratings star.
Loved the show! The acting was great, the music was excellent, and the story line entertaining. I had no plans to watch this but I’m glad I did.
I thought the show was great!
