In May 2016, ABC cancelled the Nashville TV series after four years. Luckily for the drama’s fans, the studio was able to make a deal with CMT to pick up season five. Now, Nashville was never a hit in the ratings on ABC but we know the numbers will surely be a lot lower on CMT, a small cable channel. Will the ratings be good enough for the series to be renewed for a sixth season or, will it be cancelled instead? Stay tuned.
In season five, the Nashville TV show continues to follow the lives and careers of country music superstars Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere) and Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton). The rest of the CMT cast includes Charles Esten, Clare Bowen, Sam Palladio, Chris Carmack, Jonathan Jackson, Lennon Stella, and Maisy Stella. Recurring performers are expected to include David Alford, Ed Amatrudo, Kourtney Hansen, Scott Reeves, Kyle Dean Massey, Rhiannon Giddens, Bridgit Mendler, Jen Richards, Murray Bartlett, Cameron Scoggins, Joseph David-Jones, Joanie Stewart, and Christian Coulson. Will Chase is expected to guest as Luke Wheeler.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

11/17 update: CMT has announced Nashville will end after season six on CMT. Details here.
Keep the show!! Have SOMETHING out there that families with older kids can continue to watch. They’re touching so many topics that girls face – periods, boys, sex, curfews, defiance, death, goal setting, practicing to improve, body confidence, shows us the other side of fame…..
IT won’ be the same without Rayna BUT there’s so many directions that it could go I’d hate to see all those other stories come to an end just because of one character. The other actors are so fantastic, don’t let the show look like it was a one man deal.
Please keep it on.. I love Nashville i also loved Rayne but i want to watch how her daughters grow into the music.. I love Deacon.. Oooo my fingers crossed for Season 6…
Please please renew Nashville for Season 6 and for many more from then on. The cast and music are the best. Please keep it going.
Please please renew Nashville for Sesson 6 and for many more seasons after. I love Nashville! The cast and music is the best! Keep it going please!
I thick there should be a season six I love Nashville
Very heartbroken over the death of Rayna! I have cried like a baby watching the one with her death and this past week! The show will not be the same without her! I dont think there should be a season 6!
Please, please do not cancel this show very hard finding anything good on TV these days and we so enjoyed this show so very much Love, love the music also we will truly miss it.
Nashville is my favorite tv show! If I got cancelled I would be so lost! I honestly love this show so much! Wonderful actors and the best music!
I really enjoy watching Nashville and hope there will be many more seasons to follow 5. It was very sad to watch Rayna’s death but that is reality. Juliette and Maddie could do wonders at Highway 65! Flashback Rayna would be a great way to add flare! Great work to all the cast and producers! 🙂
WITHOUT RAYNA JAMES THERE IS NO NASHVILLE TV SHOW – SORRY THAT IS MY OPINION – BUT THE SHOW SHOULD HAVE KEPT THE MUSIC AND GET RID OF THE OTHER CRAP – THAT IS WHAT MADE THIS SHOW DIFFERENT AND UNIQUE
The show was not called Rayna. Still lots of talent and many stories to be told. Connie wanted to leave. Give it a chance it will still be great.
Keep the show! Lok forward to see how they keep people’s interest with Rayna gone. Bring back some more music !
I absolutely love the show. But with Rayna gone. It’s not much of a show anymore. Rayna was the heart and soul of Nashville.
Keep it for season 6 but, make it better! I miss the good music! I think CMT should be able to convince some country stars to step in from time to time too!
I certainly hope that Nashville will have Season 6. I love the show, but it about killed me to see Rayna’s death!
I love this show. I hope they renew for season 6.
