In 2009, both Southland and Medium were cancelled by NBC but were then saved by other networks. Three long-running shows were recently cancelled last month and it looked like each had a good shot of being saved as well.
A couple weeks later, Law & Order and Ghost Whisperer have been denied a second chance and now, The New Adventures of Old Christine has as well.
The New Adventures of Old Christine follows a neurotic single mom (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) who has a hard time juggling a relationship with responsibilities at home and work. Others in the cast include Hamish Linklater, Wanda Sykes, Trevor Gagnon, Clark Gregg, Emily Rutherfurd, Tricia O’Kelley, and Alex Kapp Horner.
The sitcom has been a moderate performer for CBS from the beginning and has ended up on the bubble each year. For the past two years, ABC has been ready to pick up the show if CBS dropped it. Those were in the days when ABC wasn’t having much luck finding successful sitcoms of their own.
When CBS cancelled Old Christine this year, the alphabet network wasn’t as interested anymore because ABC already has some successful sitcoms with several new ones waiting in the wings.
This season, Old Christine aired opposite ABC sitcoms and didn’t fare very well. As a result, the network has decided not to pick up the Julia Louis-Dreyfus sitcom for season six.
The final episode of The New Adventures of Old Christine aired on May 12th on CBS. After five seasons and 88 episodes, there won’t be a final episode to wrap up the series.
On the positive side, reruns will begin airing on Lifetime and on local stations across the country in the fall.
What do you think? Should ABC have picked up Old Christine for season six? How would you have ended the show?

Bring this show back. Talent abounds!!!
This is/was a really clever funny show. My boyfriend and I love this show and it always made us laugh. I agree with the others about those stupid reality shows-get rid of those!!!
I LOVE this show!! I only started watching it on Lifetime but…Where the hell have I been! This show is HILARIOUS!! I would much rather watch this than almost anything else on ABC or CBS!!
I love this show…please bring it back!!!
I love this show. Not just because we share the same name but because she is a real woman. Get rid of the stupid reality shows and bring Christine, Richie and Matthew back. My opinion.
BRING IT BACK….IT WAS WONDERFUL AND MADE ME GIGGLE.
TOO MANY REALITY, NOT ENOUGH REAL LIFE.
Thank Goodness for LIFETIME! I only recently found the show and have been obsessed! I am so so sad that it was canceled! Again it teaches me not to fall in love with a show with substance – sorry but Jersey Shore just doesn’t do it for me. Sighhh… back to reading books. You are missed awesome show!
Have watched faithfully for 5 seasons. Broken hearted to learn this show won’t be back. Agree there is too much “reality TV nonsense” on these days….the 30-minute sitcom seems to be a dying breed. Old Christine guaranteed laughs every week…..why would anyone cancel that show? Bring this show back!
I loved this show, actually a show that makes you laugh out loud. Of course it’s cancelled it was a great show! Some of the shows on tv right now are just pathetic.
My opinion!
I am really sad this show has been canceled. I kept looking for it hoping it would be a 2011 late addition to any network, and am disappointed that networks are opting for mindless reality shows, than this quirky, smart and funny show. 🙁
With 4 kids, 2 dogs and a lizard, I never get to watch tv in the evenings, so I never knew this show even existed. I watch it EVERY morning on Lifetime (finally the “victim channel” got one right), and NOW I find out it was cancelled?!? And there was FINALLY a REAL woman on the tube — not those fake, plastic, perfect kind that only touch-ups and special lenses can attain! Please, bring back the only laugh-out-loud show on today, America needs a good laugh!
I want my show back!! There aren’t many shows that make me count the days until the next one like Old Christine did.
The networks leave on horrid reality shows and numbing comedies like Two and a Half Men, but cancel the witty and zany Christine 🙁
I miss this show! Please bring it back!!
KEEP THIS SHOW AND GET RID OF THOSE REALITY SHOWS!
