After being on the bubble for several seasons, CBS has finally cancelled The New Adventures of Old Christine. There’s a chance that it may be saved by another network but odds would have been better if this had happened in previous years.
The New Adventures of Old Christine follows the challenges of Christine Campbell (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) , a neurotic single mom who has a hard time finding a relationship and juggling her responsibilities at home and work. Others in her life include her low-key brother, Matthew (Hamish Linklater); best friend and business partner, Barbara (Wanda Sykes); young son Ritchie (Trevor Gagnon); irresponsible ex-husband, Richard (Clark Gregg); and his current love, “New Christine” (Emily Rutherfurd). Often popping up to make “Old Christine” feel even more incompetent are “mean mommies,” Marly and Lindsay (Tricia O’Kelley and Alex Kapp Horner).
After being part of CBS’ Monday night line-up for two seasons, Old Christine was used to help establish a second comedy block for the network on Wednesday nights. Unfortunately, the experiment wasn’t a big success. Old Christine was barely renewed last season. As there had been in the past, there was talk that ABC might pick it up if CBS had actually cancelled the show.
This season, Old Christine’s numbers have gotten worse and CBS decided to abandon the Wednesday night comedy hour. As a result, the network decided to finally cancel Old Christine.
In past years, Old Christine was attractive to ABC because they weren’t having much success with their own sitcoms. This time around, they already have a well-established night of sitcoms and several new options waiting in the wings.
Still, there is some talk of ABC picking up the series. As of today, the execs at ABC and Warner Bros. are trying to work out the numbers. The deal that Warner Bros. can offer is likely being impacted by how much profit new episodes will bring in syndication.
Last summer, Warner Bros. sold the Old Christine syndication package to Lifetime for some ad time and about $350,000 per episode (compared to 30 Rock episodes which went for $800,000). The sitcom was also sold to local stations in most of the US markets.
Reruns will pop up on cable and local stations in the fall. It remains to be seen if new episodes will be on ABC.
What do you think? Should ABC rescue The New Adventures of Old Christine? Where would you put it — with The Middle, Cougar Town, or someplace else?

I can’t believe that Christine was cancelled. Whoever made that decision should be fired. There are very few good sitcoms left anymore. I think ABC should jump at the chance. That is one network I never watch but would tune in for NAofOC.
Why did you cancel it? It was a great show… I’m sure despite the silly numbers, people will understand its worth soon…
u have got to be kidding! one of the best sitcoms on tv. ABC or another network has got to pick it up! nothing funny on TV with good humor, just a bunch of bad reality shows.
LOVE this show! Seriously so many NOT funny
“comedies” on TV…Christine is
hilarious. Bring it back!!
This show is pure genius. All too often easy to relate to. I was disappointed when I heard that it was being cancelled. ABC, please rescue this show; would be a perfect fit in the Wednesday line up!!
the new adventures of old christine is my favorite show, and i live in greece!!!!
i just found out it was cancelled and i couldn’t believe it! do these people have any taste or common sence?
I feel almost heartbroken over this! I’ve been waiting around like a dumbass myself, waiting for this ONE AND ONLY FUNNY sitcom to premiere this month, to no avail! I am shocked and disappointed. Even my husband loved this show. Only show I’ve ever really laughed out loud through. SUCH A MISTAKE!! Bring ’em back if you’ve a brain in your collective head!!!!
Due to the lack good judgement on CBS’s part for canceling The New Adventures of Old Christine I will no longer be watching any of your programs. Shame on you for making that horrible mistake, and watch… you’ll probably replace it with someone like Charlie Sheen or another reality show. Dumbass! That name was in memory of “Christine”.
CBS how can you know how many viewers is watching the show when everyone is not asked???????????????? I’ve always wondered how the teleision rating scale works. Can anyone fill me in! Please bring it back it is so funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been waiting all summer long for this show to come back. YOU SUCK CBS!!!!!
I totally agree with you how do they rate the shows?
This show should be apart of the line up with The Middle, CougarTown and Modern Family. How can you cancel one of the funniest shows ever. You blew it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please don,t cancel the show. There are so few shows that make me bellie laugh. It is one of the best comidies on t.v. I work hard , and when I come home I love to relax and have a few laughs. Do you not know how much this show is liked? I to am sick of the cop shows except for NCIS. But My husband and I both enjoy THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE. thank you . DebKoz
I love the new adventures of old Christine it’s my favorite show please don’t cancel it there are so many bad ones
What are you thinking CBS?! This was gold and I now have no reason to watch CBS anymore. Too bad you didn’t cancel of of the many crime shows (that are all the same) to make room for some comedy. I guess you’re looking to become The Crime Channel. Hope that pans out for you. I don’t know how much Crime TV I can watch anymore.
P.S. Please tell me where you buy all your black lights that they use to find human discharge so i can buy stock in the company.
Damn you CBS!!!! One of the few remaining funny sitcoms on TV and you cancel it!!
You’re as dumb as NBC!!!!!!
ABC, do the right thing and renew it this fall! You know you want to!
