The battle for humanity’s survival is ending earlier than hoped The FOX network has cancelled the neXt TV series so there won’t be a second season, a victim of low ratings and COVID-19.
An action-thriller series, the neXt TV show stars John Slattery, Elizabeth Cappuccino, Jason Butler Harner, Fernanda Andrade, Eve Harlow, Aaron Moten, Michael Mosley, Evan Whitten, and Gerardo Celasco. The story revolves around Silicon Valley pioneer Paul LeBlanc (Slattery) who built a fortune and his legacy on his world-changing innovations.
After discovering that one of his own creations — a powerful artificial intelligence called “neXt” — might spell doom for humankind, Paul tried to shutter the project, only to be kicked out of the company by his own brother (Harner). When a series of unsettling tech mishaps points to a potential worldwide crisis, LeBlanc joins forces with Special Agent Shea Salazar (Andrade) and her unique and talented team. Now, they are the only ones standing in the way of a potential global catastrophe, fighting an emergent superintelligence that will deploy the immense knowledge it has gleaned from the data all around us to recruit allies, turn people against each other, and eliminate obstacles to its own survival and growth.
The first season of neXt averages a 0.30 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.67 million viewers. Just two episodes have been aired thus far. The third has been released on Hulu but didn’t air on FOX because of the World Series. It’s the network’s lowest-rated show out of the 10 current series.
Variety reports that FOX plans to air the remaining seven installments of the season. The network also cancelled the low-rated Filthy Rich series today. Both were reportedly cancelled thanks to low ratings and rising production costs due to COVID-19.

What do you think? Have you seen the neXt TV series on FOX? Would you have watched a second season of this action-thriller series?
NEXT is an interesting show. The current storyline would have me interested in a 2nd and 3rd season. I would probably quit watching once they started down the path of chasing another show storyline or some spiritual entity story. There’s no current adult sci-fi futuristic show without super heros and/or spiritual demonic show’s. All networks seem to chase reality, or spiritual content. Yes, the viewers can be blamed, but the networks carry most of the responsibility for force feeding bandwagon series. I have a profitable suggestion for the TV networks. I found this series intriguing, but slow. The main protagonist’s health issue added nothing to the plot. Still, I would have watched the season and looked forward to season 2.
How in the world has there been enough time to determine low ratings? It’s not been on consistently from week to week for anyone to catch it. It’s a really good show; reminds me somewhat of Person of Interest. One of my favorite shows, and it’s too bad they decided to cancel. The mindless reality shows always seem to win out over thought provoking, intelligent shows.
I thought the show was good was looking forward to the show lasting more than 1 season.
Yes i would have watched i am enjoying this show! Damn Fox……ughhhhhh
I am outraged, I am so looking forward to Tuesday
For the next episode. I love seeing John Slattery again.
This is a really good story. I think it may be all the election
News and late Games , but 3 episodes is too early to make this decision .I would love a season 2 also.
Pat
I have watched 3 episodes of NeXt and am loving it. I cant believe it’s been cancelled, I would have loved a Season 2. Its really good.
Only two shows have aired. Baseball interfered. Love NEXT. Mt granddaughter 14 watches with me. I am over 6p. But we both love it!! Sorry to see it go
Another decent show cancelled by Fox who continues to air such lame-brained shows as Masked Singer, Masked Dancer, etc.
The reason those shows are popular is because they’re cheap to make an produce a return on investment in all but the poorest senarios.
I really enjoy Next and would watch a 2nd season. Unlike others, I have seen 3 episodes and thrilled fox will air the remaining episodes! (I watched 3rd episode on Hulu) The thought of what Next addresses is a scary thought. Makes me think we already have something similar in existence. LOVE THIS SHOW AND THIS 50 YR OLD FEMALE IS DISAPPOINTED THERE WILL NOT BE ANOTHER SEASON.
I’ve been anxiously waiting episode 4 and love the show so far. I think this would have been a great series for sci-fi/tech people like myself since it really is plausible with they way tech is embedded in our lives. I think this was a big mistake by fox and I’m disappointed in them…
I’ve. Only got to see 2. Episodes of next baseball and debates interfered but I really liked it but I don’t fit intheir demographic I’m old haved paid for my house, car and everything I own so leaves me more money to spend on your sponsors products so sorry to lose another good program
I enjoyed Next, I found the story believable and the characters well drawn especially the lead. How can you cancel a show after three episodes is beyond me. Not enough time to develop a following! FOX UOU STINK!
I watched all 3 episodes and nearing the end of the second episode I turned to my wife and said, “This show will be canceled soon…way too smart for viewers in this country”.
Three episodes have aired? Only seen 2 here. Never mind, figured out why, it would’ve been from 10-11 pm, when our local Fox station has its late evening news.
