The battle for humanity’s survival is ending earlier than hoped The FOX network has cancelled the neXt TV series so there won’t be a second season, a victim of low ratings and COVID-19.
An action-thriller series, the neXt TV show stars John Slattery, Elizabeth Cappuccino, Jason Butler Harner, Fernanda Andrade, Eve Harlow, Aaron Moten, Michael Mosley, Evan Whitten, and Gerardo Celasco. The story revolves around Silicon Valley pioneer Paul LeBlanc (Slattery) who built a fortune and his legacy on his world-changing innovations.
After discovering that one of his own creations — a powerful artificial intelligence called “neXt” — might spell doom for humankind, Paul tried to shutter the project, only to be kicked out of the company by his own brother (Harner). When a series of unsettling tech mishaps points to a potential worldwide crisis, LeBlanc joins forces with Special Agent Shea Salazar (Andrade) and her unique and talented team. Now, they are the only ones standing in the way of a potential global catastrophe, fighting an emergent superintelligence that will deploy the immense knowledge it has gleaned from the data all around us to recruit allies, turn people against each other, and eliminate obstacles to its own survival and growth.
The first season of neXt averages a 0.30 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.67 million viewers. Just two episodes have been aired thus far. The third has been released on Hulu but didn’t air on FOX because of the World Series. It’s the network’s lowest-rated show out of the 10 current series.
Variety reports that FOX plans to air the remaining seven installments of the season. The network also cancelled the low-rated Filthy Rich series today. Both were reportedly cancelled thanks to low ratings and rising production costs due to COVID-19.

This is a show that needs to be continued. It fits so well with what’s going on in this world about technology. Many people don’t realize the seriousness of IT and how powerful it is. This is such a bummer for not having a 2nd season.
Next was the best new show on TV by far! If it had low ratings it’s because Fox didn’t put much effort into promoting it. Seriously disappointing. Everybody I have turned on to the show absolutely loves it! Whoever is making these crazy decisions at the FOX network needs to find a new career ASAP. Hopefully they will reconsider if it starts to go viral, which it should if they advertise it more.
Great show can’t believe it’s cancelled it’s barely started?! The stupidest shows stay I mean the Bartxhelor gets all these season and it’s mindless dribble! Something that makes intelligence to watch like neXt gets the axe. 2020 really sux!
Darn. Just as I’d gotten excited about Next; FOX pulls it. This is something this network does often to new shows. Maybe the show is better suited on Si-Fi?
Some bulls*it this show was really good and I watch all the episodes in one day on hulu and was waiting for the next episode and nothing keep checking ever damn week they even said their self they only show 2 EPISODES u can’t judge a show off 2 episodes but this one had me hook after the first episode definitely when next was trying to tell that kid to shoot up the school I was like WHATTTT and look at all these comment hulu need to be smart and pick it up for season 2 cause I’m tired of… Read more »
Loved the premise and cast. I am disappointed that The network didn’t give this show a chance to find it’s footing. My guess is Fox will fill the time with a low brow reality show…..amh
Loved this show! I don’t watch much network TV but this one was exceptional. Leave it to FOX and their poor judgment in everything.

Would have loved a season 2 and I’m only 3 episodes in! Glad they are airing the rest of the season. The cash is SO good. Shea and CM are my favorite so far. Seems like FOX blew it with their programming. They are the ones to blame. Why in the world was Cosmos the lead in show? GIVE US MORE NEXT!!!

The problem here is how they assess if a show is a success or not. In an era of binge watching few people want to tune in every week for a new episode. Most people now record all episodes (or wait for them to all be screened) and binge it when the season is over. I loved the show and was actually tuning in weekly on hulu but with most other shows I wait for the end (or at least a few episodes at a time) and binge. This was one of the best new shows on TV this season. I am really disappointed it will not be continuing. Maybe it is a victim of the fact you had to have a brain and think to watch it. Seems like only stupid game shows can last these days. America has no attention span and is truly dumbing down. Sad.
I completely agree . So Sad I had stopped watching the Fox Network previously because they seem to cancel shows I liked. I started watching again recently this show and another. Both I found out were cancelled today. Unbelievable. They don’t give shows a chance and I know quite a few people who like this show but are not able to watch when it comes on so we record them. I record mine on sling and watch when I can. I guess that hurts the ratings. Fox I’m done!!
