The battle for humanity’s survival is ending earlier than hoped The FOX network has cancelled the neXt TV series so there won’t be a second season, a victim of low ratings and COVID-19.
An action-thriller series, the neXt TV show stars John Slattery, Elizabeth Cappuccino, Jason Butler Harner, Fernanda Andrade, Eve Harlow, Aaron Moten, Michael Mosley, Evan Whitten, and Gerardo Celasco. The story revolves around Silicon Valley pioneer Paul LeBlanc (Slattery) who built a fortune and his legacy on his world-changing innovations.
After discovering that one of his own creations — a powerful artificial intelligence called “neXt” — might spell doom for humankind, Paul tried to shutter the project, only to be kicked out of the company by his own brother (Harner). When a series of unsettling tech mishaps points to a potential worldwide crisis, LeBlanc joins forces with Special Agent Shea Salazar (Andrade) and her unique and talented team. Now, they are the only ones standing in the way of a potential global catastrophe, fighting an emergent superintelligence that will deploy the immense knowledge it has gleaned from the data all around us to recruit allies, turn people against each other, and eliminate obstacles to its own survival and growth.
The first season of neXt averages a 0.30 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.67 million viewers. Just two episodes have been aired thus far. The third has been released on Hulu but didn’t air on FOX because of the World Series. It’s the network’s lowest-rated show out of the 10 current series.
Variety reports that FOX plans to air the remaining seven installments of the season. The network also cancelled the low-rated Filthy Rich series today. Both were reportedly cancelled thanks to low ratings and rising production costs due to COVID-19.

What do you think? Have you seen the neXt TV series on FOX? Would you have watched a second season of this action-thriller series?
With the lack of promotion, what do they think will happen? Fox is already an underdog and they need to work harder than the big three! The execs at Fox do not have a clue and should all be replaced!
I haven’t really watched enough of Next or Filthy Rich to make up my mind yet as to whether I like them or not. But considering there’s really not anything else ON TV at the moment (besides the unwatchable autotuned “singing” shows and other “reality” dragonshit) I don’t see how ANYTHING could be getting cancelled already.
Did Zuckerberg get offended by the show or something?
It’s too bad but not surprising. Fox has always canceled good shows. Look at their track record Dark Angel, Terminator The Sarah Conner Chronicles Family Guy (yes they brought it back but they were still stupid enough to cancel it) Firefly, Dollhouse, Lucifer (than Satan himself for Netflix righting that Wrong) Gifted & Brooklyn Nine Nine. I’m sure there are more but those are the ones that I felt were canceled to soon. Fox never knows what to do with shows that…well if I’m honest any show. The people they pick to run the network are great at green lighting… Read more »
I could really give a rip about Filthy Rich, it just seemed like an Empire-type ripoff; but I am really disappointed Fox cancelled NeXt– it’s just probably easier (and way cheaper) to air insipid game shows.
I think they were too close to the truth and they were forced to cancel. I have been waiting for soooo long for this series and now it’s gone after just three episodes. What a joke.
It was probably canceled because it really possible..
I am a movie hog, me and my kids love movies and this show actually caught my attention and my 26 year-old my 22 year old and my 13 year old attention. We were looking forward to continue watching it but it’s a shame that it was cancelled
I am beyond disappointed….AGAIN. After weeding through all of the garbage, I finally found a couple of shows that we could really get into and POOF…Gone! Perhaps if these shows had been properly advertised with a clear schedule they would have done much better in the ratings. I only found they had started when a friend asked if I had seen either program. Both of these shows are very good, especially NEXT because it is frightening given our dependency on computer technology. Come of Fox, let’s get rid of the cartoons and the spinoff programs which are never as popular… Read more »
I totally agree with everything you are saying. Lately everything I like keeps getting cancelled I think i will stop watching Fox all together . Most of my new shows I was liking was on fox and they keep cancelling them. I think I should just watch Netflix and cancell all my other tv watching stations. The channel I really watch are tnt and usa . Forget all others they have crap on them. I’m so glad I found out filthy rich and next were cancelled now I won’t wast my time getting deeper into watching them since they are… Read more »
this was so good and suspenseful. I was hooked. When is Episode 4 and at least the rest of the season being released? this absolutely sucks.
Why do you start the show if you know they are not going to work. I love both of these show and would love to see them each week, it is a lot better than some of the stupid shows you have on Fox on Sunday nights that animation domination crap. I hate those shows. I liked the Deputy when it was on but no you took it off too.
Production companies better come to terms with the increased costs due to Covid pretty quickly because it will be around for at least a year or two.
They had stop starting things you don’t intend seeing through before they lose whatever viewers they haven’t yet lost to streaming services.
I said the same thing on the Filthy Rich discussion.
Yes I would watch NEXT season… its current and dead on suspense …. it’s GOOD
I just think it’s ridiculous how tv stations just yank good shows off the air after we get interested in them. How can you even tell what ratings are with only 2 episodes aired so far? Most of us not even aware anything back on yet for fall line up as it’s been insane so far and nothing to watch! I rarely will watch regular tv channels anymore for this exact reason. I loved the first 2 episodes of this Next show as did all my friends. Back to Netflix/ Dish i go! If the shows don’t disappear, the channels… Read more »
2 episodes and they give up already why bother
Yes!!! I was intrigued from the very first episode of NEXT and continued to be even more so through episode 3. This drama series definitely needs to continue!
