While some shows are getting orders for additional episodes, Numb3rs has just had its number cut by CBS. How does this bode for the drama’s chances for a seventh season?
As Friday night viewers know, Numb3rs revolves around an FBI agent (Rob Morrow) and his genius brother (David Krumholtz) who helps solve cases with mathematics. The cast also features Judd Hirsch (as their father), Alimi Ballard, Dylan Bruno, Navi Rawat, Aya Sumika, and Peter MacNicol.
The series is currently in its sixth season, having debuted in January 2005. For the show’s entire run, it’s been a staple of CBS’ Friday night schedule in the 10pm position.
In its first season, Numb3rs averaged a 3.2 rating in the demo and 11.1 million viewers. In season two, the show’s ratings rose to an average rating of 3.3 and 11.7 million viewers. Overall viewership has dropped since then. Last season was watched by an average of 9.75 million and the demo was 2.2.

This season however has been a different story. Numb3rs’ numbers are way down. It’s fallen all the way down to a 1.7 rating in the all-important demo. Overall viewership has also dropped to an average of 7.9 million viewers.
If you look at these figures, it’s not hard to understand why CBS has decided to cut this season’s order from 22 to 16 episodes. In addition, the network already has a couple other dramas that can take its place, including Flashpoint — a show that’s cheaper and already proven to work on Friday nights.
What does this mean for Numb3rs’ future and its chances for a seventh season? The episode cut doesn’t mean anything in itself but the ratings that caused it certainly do. The show is already in syndication and, now in its sixth year, the show is quite difficult to produce. Unless the ratings return to their previous level, the show will surely be cancelled.
What do you think? Would you be sorry to see the show cancelled or would you like to watch a seventh season?

We look forward to watching Numb3rs every week and truly miss it when you substitute another program. PLEASE do not take it off the air. We know that ratings are important, however I suggest that you research different ways people view the program… internet and various other ways before making any final decision. We want to see Charlie and Amedia life moving forward, and see Don getting married ~ and so much more. It also provides good values and shows the importance of mathmatics and how it can help. Thank you!
It would be awful if this show was cancelled! We never miss an episode! CBS would be very foolish to cancel such a great show.
My Mom and I watch the show faithfully. We love the characters and the story lines. Please bring on season 7.
Add a seventh season
Would love to see Numbers come back for a seventh season. If the cast changes so be it, but it’s a great show. It improved what used to be mediocre Friday night programming. C’mon, let’s go another season!
A very SAD day for CBS! Numb3rs is truly one of the few shows that I watch on CBS and I even get up early in the morning to watch the reruns on TNT. Come one CBS bring back numbers and put it on before Criminal Minds. You really don’t have much on besides 2 and 1/2 Men.
Yes I dont want Numbers to be cancled, I like Charley and his wife have a baby. In a eight season. I like numbers it is a good show. Don can be an uncle and there father can be good grandpa. Number 10 or 12 season is good maybe in the number 13. I like to see if Don will get married. I am a fan of numbers, I wish numbers can move to Saturday night, I would like to watch the seasons on Saturday night at 8 or 10pm. from Kelly PS I would like to see more numbers.
I’d like to see it continue – it’s what has drawn me to CBS – it will be sorely missed.
Both my wife and myself like this show very much – we look forward to watching it every week. There will be a BIG hole in the Friday lineup without it.
Keep it on! I just adore Numb3rs, and I think it would be a crime to cancel it!
The awful lead in of Medium has made it difficult for folks to turn back to CBS. The scramble away after Ghost Whisperer is like the rats leaving a sinking ship. Kill Medium and put Flashpoint there and Numb3rs will keep those viewers. Medium is unwatchable.
Numb3rs is one of the few programs I’ve truly liked over the years. There aren’t many really good ones left! Seeing CBS cut the number of shows down was brutal, to say the least. Perhaps re-thinking the time-slot and/or day would have been a much better idea. Also basing their decisions purely on ratings is a mistake – have they looked at the number of subscriptions and downloads on iTunes, Amazon, etc.? There are MANY people, such as myself, who just do not want to sit through the commercials or fast forward through them if we record the episodes. We’d… Read more »
We beed something on Friday to make it a good night for TV for those of us who are home and the Networks act like no one is, I do CSE but Criminal Minds is too much for me as is Ghost Wisperer, I can usually handle Medium.
Keep Numb3rs. I can’t understand why cbs keeps on trying to put on medical shows Look what happend to the last one they tried, It didn’t last long.
I like this show a lot. However, in my opinion, if the network really wanted this show to get good ratings, wanted to promote this show, and wanted this show to be a real winner, they wouldn’t be airing it on a Friday night. Friday nights can be a kiss of death. People go out on Friday nights.
Just watched the last episode of the season. It would be a crime to cancel a show that is this family oriented with a great cast and good values. What would they put in its place? Some cheap, sleezy reality crap that is totally unwatchable? All for the sake of money?
