While some shows are getting orders for additional episodes, Numb3rs has just had its number cut by CBS. How does this bode for the drama’s chances for a seventh season?
As Friday night viewers know, Numb3rs revolves around an FBI agent (Rob Morrow) and his genius brother (David Krumholtz) who helps solve cases with mathematics. The cast also features Judd Hirsch (as their father), Alimi Ballard, Dylan Bruno, Navi Rawat, Aya Sumika, and Peter MacNicol.
The series is currently in its sixth season, having debuted in January 2005. For the show’s entire run, it’s been a staple of CBS’ Friday night schedule in the 10pm position.
In its first season, Numb3rs averaged a 3.2 rating in the demo and 11.1 million viewers. In season two, the show’s ratings rose to an average rating of 3.3 and 11.7 million viewers. Overall viewership has dropped since then. Last season was watched by an average of 9.75 million and the demo was 2.2.

This season however has been a different story. Numb3rs’ numbers are way down. It’s fallen all the way down to a 1.7 rating in the all-important demo. Overall viewership has also dropped to an average of 7.9 million viewers.
If you look at these figures, it’s not hard to understand why CBS has decided to cut this season’s order from 22 to 16 episodes. In addition, the network already has a couple other dramas that can take its place, including Flashpoint — a show that’s cheaper and already proven to work on Friday nights.
What does this mean for Numb3rs’ future and its chances for a seventh season? The episode cut doesn’t mean anything in itself but the ratings that caused it certainly do. The show is already in syndication and, now in its sixth year, the show is quite difficult to produce. Unless the ratings return to their previous level, the show will surely be cancelled.
What do you think? Would you be sorry to see the show cancelled or would you like to watch a seventh season?

Please don’t cancel Numbers. The regular shows that I watch are down to six. I love the way the crimes are solved on numbers.
Sincerely,
Rosemary
Forget flashpoint…we want Numbers! Every show is a CSI knock off trying to one up each other in grossness…eventually getting a confession based on some tiny bug toenail that would never convince a jury…and they want to cancel a show with some originality! I protest! Yay for math geeks!
One of the only shows we try to watch. Always wished it came on an hour earlier. We missed some episodes because we turned off the TV an hour before it came on.
I like the show I would be sorry to see it cancelled
Why do you want to cancel a good series like NUMBERS and you have these miserable
shows like HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER? This is more like the Neil Patrick Harris Show. RULES OF ENGAGEMENT? How many shows does David Spade have to tank
before you get the hint? You people have canceled some good crime shows to keep these
moronic comedies (if you want to call them that) on.
TV is so bad with all of the stupid reality shows. Numbers is one of the few intelligent shows left. PLEASE CBS DO SOMETHING INTELLIGENT FOR ONCE – FOR YOUR VIEWERS THAT WANT MORE THAN REALITY TV!!
This is mt favorite show do not cancel it
Numbers is the only show that actually shows that science and math have a place in the real world. CBS would be a fool to dorp this show.
Why would you want to take Numbers off the air? It’s one of the best shows on tv!! Just because it doesn’t have all the blood and gore that some of the other shows have is not a good enough reason. I look forward to my Friday nights watching my three shows. Ghost Whisperer, Medium and then Numbers. It’s a perfect evening!! Even when I’m not home to watch them I used to DVR them until I found the ondemand channel that I can catch up with them. I will not watch the new medical show you have on. The… Read more »
As far as I’m concerned it is the best show on TV. I wouldn’t watch anything else that took its place. Great stories. Great actors. Great characters. Who can ask for more?
I watch Numb3rs every Friday and whenever it’s available in syndication. Please don’t cancell this wonderful drama. It is my favorite.
I love the numbers show one of the best cop shows on the tv. keep it or loose another watcher on your network in that time.
I agree I would hate to see it cancelled. We have never missed a show. I disagree that you have to be smart as all get out to enjoy it. I do wonder about the people out there watching though. What they are calling good programing lately isn’t worth watching. We went and cancelled the dish because we didn’t think it was worth it any more. Friday night was the only night we watched three programs in a row. They have managed to screw up Thursday, and I now have three I watch on at the same time. WE don’t… Read more »
What’s wrong with you people? It’s the only thing on Friday night worth watching except Diners/Drive Ins/Dives. You have certainly lost us as viewers, some people really get into the characters, there are enough stupid shows on, leave us at least one show that shows there is more to think about than who done it, it’s about HOW it’s done when Charlie starts w/his ideas.
I thiink Numb3rs is a very well written show. It is a more high brow show and is more entertaining to the smarter crowd than the things like CSI. I would greatly love to see it continue, but i can see why CBS would choose to cancell it with the low ratings. I think if they dumbed it downed there audience would broaden and there ratings would increase.
