According to a Deadline report, the odds are in favor of The Odd Couple TV show being renewed for a third season on CBS. The sitcom stars Matthew Perry and Thomas Lennon. In its first season, The Odd Couple averaged a 2.21 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.77 million viewers.
Season two of The Odd Couple is doing better in the ratings than expected. As of the May 12th episode, The Odd Couple was averaging a 1.52 rating in the 18-29 year old viewer demographic and was drawing an average total audience of 7.430 million viewers. While these numbers seem a lot lower than the first season average, they are on par with the numbers for the last few episodes in season one.
When looked at in context of the scripted CBS series we have been tracking in the 2015-2016 television season, The Odd Couple TV series ranks 11th out of 24, when the CBS shows are sorted by the 19-49 demo. When sorted by average total audience size, it ranks 14th out of 24.
Here’s what Deadline says:
Among the remaining CBS series whose fate has not been decided, sophomore comedy The Odd Couple starring Matthew Perry is looking good to return after better-than-expected ratings performance for the current second season. I hear the show also had asked for approval to make if/come deals [to retain its writing staff] but it already has many of the writers in place, so there was no real need to do much more.
In this latest iteration of The Odd Couple, originally inspired by Neil Simon’s stage comedy, slobby Oscar (Matthew Perry) and finicky Felix (Thomas Lennon) are former college buds who share an apartment after their wives leave them. The cast also includes Lindsay Sloane, Wendell Pierce, and Yvette Nicole Brown.
What do you think? Are you a fan of The Odd Couple TV show? Should it be cancelled, or renewed for a third season?
