ABC’s mid-season medical drama, Off the Map, recently concluded its first season on the air. The alphabet network’s been looking for a new hit drama and this one was produced by veteran producers of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. How does Off the Map stack up? Will it be cancelled or renewed for season two?
Off the Map revolves around six doctors who have “lost their way” and travel to a remote South American jungle to help those in need and to try to rediscover the reasons why they wanted to become physicians. The series features the talents of Caroline Dhavernas, Jason George, Jonathan Castellanos, Mamie Gummer, Martin Henderson, Rachelle Lefevre, Valerie Cruz, and Zach Gilford.
The medical drama premiered with a mediocre 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.57 million viewers. The TV series won its timeslot but was disrupted in some parts of the country by coverage of the Tucson Memorial. ABC decided to give Off the Map another chance to attract viewers by rerunning the first episode the following night, in place of a Private Practice rerun, and it retained much of the Grey’s Anatomy lead-in audience.
Unfortunately, that’s still not a great start and subsequent episodes of Off the Map essentially drew fewer and fewer viewers each week. The final episode of the season hit a series low and attracted a very poor 1.3 rating in the demo with only 3.80 million viewers.
Off the Map is the second-lowest scripted series on ABC that hasn’t already been officially cancelled, averaging a 1.7 in the demo and 4.96 million viewers. It ranks below doomed No Ordinary Family and just above doomed Detroit 1-8-7. In short, unless ABC really needs to keep Shonda Rhimes happy, there is no reason why the network would bring Off the Map back next year for season two.

I absolutely love this show. Would be very disappointed with the network for introducing a new medical show and then canceling it after the first season! I work in the medical field and my co-workers and I love the show and the concept of it. I have yet to meet someone in my profession that doesn’t enjoy watching it. This show needs at least one more season- and watch the numbers rise ( especially if you changed the time to 9pm eastern). Thanks and hope to see this show on the air soon!!!!!

I have been looking for this show for weeks, couldn’t understand where it had gone. I’m very upset of it being cancelled. It was a great show. On late, yes, but I stayed up for it. I really hope it does get picked up, maybe over the summer when there is nothing on to watch, maybe a different time. This show should be a hit. It needs a better chance.
I have been waiting for the return of Off the Map. I was surprised to hear of it’s low ratings, but hopefully it will be renewed for another season.

I really loved this show. I looked forward to it every week. I hope they decide to give it one more chance because I think a lot of people would enjoy it if they just gave it a try.
I really enjoyed the series and hope it continues. I like its unique context and the intensity of each episode. The twists and shocking moments are exciting and take you on a journey for the hour you watch.
I think the downfall was all the hype and then the first episode had nothing to really grab. Had I not been a Grey’s Anatomy fan I probably wouldn’t have returned to give it another chance with the second episode. The first episode really did not get it done in terms of hooking the viewer. However, I am glad I returned to watch because I have enjoyed every episode after…with each one getting better and better.
i loved off the map! good story lines and a little bit of gruesomeness. i think maybe it was just on too late or not enough publicity. im sad that it wont be back next season.
I really enjoyed this new series, Off the Map. I was able to easily get into the characters, and I found myself wanting more each week. It was very entertaining, and I loved to drama, with the patients, and between the characters. I really hope it comes back next season.

I really love this show. It is very refreshing to see how doctors have to work with only the strick min of supplies… I really like the cast. its nice to see new faces.I REALLY REALLY hope it comes back for many more seasons!!!!
