ABC had high hopes for Off the Map, their new medical drama from veteran producers of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. Unfortunately things didn’t go as planned and ABC has now cancelled Off the Map after one season on the air.
Off the Map follows the lives of six doctors who have “lost their way” and have traveled to a remote South American jungle to try to rediscover why they wanted to become physicians.
The TV series’ cast includes Caroline Dhavernas, Jason George, Jonathan Castellanos, Mamie Gummer, Martin Henderson, Rachelle Lefevre, Valerie Cruz, and Zach Gilford.
The TV series premiered to a disappointing 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.57 million viewers. The show won its timeslot but was disrupted in some parts of the country by coverage of the Tucson Memorial. As a result, ABC reran the premiere Off the Map the following night.
For whatever reason, subsequent episodes of Off the Map essentially drew fewer and fewer viewers each week. The final episode of the season hit a series low and attracted a very poor 1.3 rating in the demo with only 3.80 million viewers.
Despite having some very passionate fans, Off the Map ended up being one of the lowest dramas on ABC. It’s no surprise then that the network has now decided against ordering a second season, cancelling the show. All 13 episodes have aired and we likely won’t find out what became of the young doctors left in the jungle.

I really enjoyed the show, I think if it had aired a little earlier then more people would have watched it. I know several people that watched it and really liked it. Why not give it a second chance?
It´s insane that they cancelled the show.
I´ve started watching this show and wanted to see the next episode every time.
It´s sad that it had to stop, because it was something different from all the other doctor-dramas.
I hope ABC will reconsider their decision and understand that they had a good concept on their hands.

I was a great fan of ER and Off The Map was
definitely up there. It was the first time I have
enjoyed a show since ER ended. The time
was too late and I believe if they ran the
first season again at a different time the ratings
would be different. There have been a few
shows that started out really poorly and
were given a second chance and then
did really well. The day and time of a show
are everything!
My husband never liked Grey’s Anatomy. He found it more of a “girl show” but “Off the Map” was interesting for both he and I. We both loved the intense story line. I especially liked the way the season was going. My husband and I were speculating what was going to happen the next season. Who will die? Would the need of the heart transplant force people to make decisions about their ex wife on life support ? We are both disappointed that these questions will not get answered. Off the Map, has me completely addicted! OMG I can’t believe its cancelled! It is so my style and I think that they should definitely make a second season for sure!
I am really disappointed the show was cancelled I love it and looked forward to season 2. They keep “reality Shows” but cancelled good dramas.
Me and my daughter absolutely loved it, we had to watch it EVERY week!! The finale was GREAT! We are very disappointed because it was one of the best medical shows on. It was very intriguing and entertaining. There finally is a good show on and it gets cancelled. Just my luck.
Liked it. Worthy of season two. Earlier time slot would have helped. Good shows get cancelled. Dead Wood a case in point.
I really enjoyed the series and am very disappointed it is not returning. I liked the sharing of old and new ways and the challenges that brought. There was lots of food for thought and I liked how it challenged my own conceptions of things. I like how the characters were developed and how they learned through the series and changed…. somehow very real people.
I think that it was, along with Harry’s Law my favourite new shows this year. and that they should have tried different time slots before nixing it all together…boohoo
I think the title was misleaving, I enjoy the show but had no idea that it was about doctors misfit doctors doing such wonderful thing.
I am very sad that off the map isnt coming back for season 2. I loved watching the show every week. But i have to say i hated that it ran so late. Me having to wake up early and not being a morning type person, it wasnt a pretty sight when i woke up. But i am sad that the stories have to end. but i did love the finale. Best episode ever.
Too Bad… have been waiting to see it. The shows that are on really suck. This was actually entertaining. So tired of them keeping shows that are long past their time and killing shows that are actually good. TV just doesn’t have much on any more.
