Like the airline that inspired the TV show, Pan Am has been grounded. ABC has cancelled the drama after one season of 14 episodes.
Taking place in the 1960s, Pan Am tells the tale of a group of men and women who work for the Pan Am airline. The large cast includes Christina Ricci, Mike Vogel, Michael Mosley, Kelli Garner, Margot Robbie, and Karine Vanasse.
The drama debuted last September to a solid 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 11.06 million total viewers. It was second in its timeslot but there was no shame in being beaten by football on NBC.

In week two, Pan Am dropped a reasonable 16% but then dropped a whopping 27% in week three. Over the course of the season, the ratings dwindled down further. Pan Am ended up averaging a 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.39 million viewers but the last few episodes were in the 1.2 demo range.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative success of shows’s demo numbers on the network, Pan Am has a “D+” grade and is one of the worst-rated shows of the season.
There were rumors that the show was being cancelled but they were denied, despite the poor ratings. ABC ordered one additional episode that could have been used to wrap everything up but, for whatever reason, that didn’t happen.
Now, ABC has made it official; Pan Am has been cancelled. The last episode aired on February 19th and unfortunately left some storylines unresolved.
What do you think? Are you surprised that Pan Am has been cancelled? Were you hoping that there would be a second season? Where did the show go wrong?
Please renew Pan Am for a second season!
I hate that they canceled pan am. My sister, friends, and I looked forward to watching it every week. It was funny the cast was great and every episode left us wanting more. Maybe they just needed a more convenient time slot to get the needed ratings. I honestly believe this show could have been as successful as grey’s anatomy or any other long standing show.
I am so sad PANAM is not coming back great show with an amazing history background ABC is so stupid for not picking up PANAM. I really loved thisnshow alot i cant believe is gone and i honestly think we all deserve another season!
We liked Pan Am and was disappointed when it just disappeared from the air and replaced by a rediculous program-GCB.
The show didn’t go wrong. ABC is just dumb
Find another TV company! ABC was painful to watch until this show came on!!!
: ( Whhhhhhhhhy is this not coming back on?!?!?!? ANNOYING!
This was a really great show that satisfied love of travel to exotic and intriguing places. ABC has a lot of good shows (and some bad ones) and it was a shame to lose this one. A better time slot might have helped. Cast was terrific. Glad GCB is gone. That was really lame.
Oh, and GCB is really stupid
I loved loved loved the show. Like Ed said, I could only catch out “on demand” because as a restaurant manager, I would be foolish to think I could ever catch anything besides late night television at the time it actually aired. ABC is losing me as a fan, between canceling Desperate Housewives, Canceling Pan Am, and the constantly rude and annoying Elizabeth on the View, they are losing me to Fox and Nbc
There will have to be a rethink of how made for tv dramas are paid for, tv schedules are a thing of the past, new dramas will be watched on PC’s, smart phones or downloaded to smart tv’s and there wll be no way of getting the word out that a series is brilliant unless it is added to something like facebook. If the tv networks don’t question the ratings system they are going to bury their heads in the sand and turn into the dinosaur that is the US car industry. Adapt and survive.
Loved the show. I agree with Ed, please some cable company somewhere please pick it up!
I enjoyed the show for the first 3 weeks but found it a struggle to hear the dialog. They should have kept the show and fired the audio director.
Disappointed to see it canceled. I really liked it a lot
Please some half way inteligent cable company..pick up this show.
Pan Am was a great airline..and a great show!
