Despite ever falling ratings, ABC’s not willing to give up on Pan Am — at least not publicly anyway.
At today’s ABC portion of the Television Critics Association Press Tour, network president Paul Lee reflected, “When it opened, it really brought a good audience to it.”
He then noted, “I think there’s a lot of goodwill toward the show. It’s a great cast. We have new and original shows right through the end of February and it’ll be in contention past that.”
Lee chose not to focus on the fact that, while Once Upon a Time and Desperate Housewives saw big gains following the winter break, Pan Am hit a new series low. The freshman series drew just a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.96 million total viewers.
The recent airing brought the season average down to a 1.9 in the demo and 6.16 million, registering a “D+” on our ABC report card. Aside from Body of Proof, it’s the least watched show on the network that hasn’t been cancelled yet.
ABC initially ordered 13 episodes but then asked for one more. Only four episodes remain for this season, and likely the series. It’s slated for February 19th.
What do you think? Is ABC still considering a future for Pan Am or is it all but officially cancelled?

My husband and I watch Pan Am regularly. It is one of the few shows we both enjoy and look forward to. As with others who have commented here, we agree that in general the shows on TV are worthless drivel; but not Pam Am. Clearly they are polling the wrong demographic. This show appeals to those of us who lived that era and flew Pan Am. Are we baby boomers not allowed to have one decent show to watch? Come on, ABC, be nice to the older demographic and keep Pan Am on the air!
Please don’t cancel PanAm.. The acting is very good (surprisingly, considering these folks were all unknown to me).. it’s a guilty pleasure. I love it..
I like the show but I’d rather see exotic locales than the cast hooking up with each other.
Please do not cancel Pan Am, we have found the program to be refreshing and a great reminder of the early 60’s. Last nights episode, brought a chill, when Kennedy was shot. It took me right back to my childhood, witnessing the adults in my world, looking on in frozen horror, at our T.V set.
The writing is very creative and the acting great!! Thanks for what we have been able to watch, so far.
PLEASE DON’T CANCEL PAN AM OR BODY OF PROOF….ALTHOUGH I WAS NOT BORN IN THE 60’S THIS IS A GREAT SHOW. JUST GIVE IT ANOTHER TIME SLOT ON A DIFFERENT DAY OTHER THAN SUNDAY…. AS FOR BODY OF PROOF BEING IN THE MEDICAL FILED I FIND THIS SHOW IS THE ONLY REALISTIC SHOW I CAN WATCH THAT DEPICT A MORE REALISTIC WAY OF EXAMINING DEATH AND IT’S CAUSES…DR. MEGAN HUNT CHARACTER IS GREAT AND REAL…
I love this show, and I know many others who do too! Please don’t cancel it!
Keep Pan am on!!!!
I really enjoy the show and sincerely hope ABC doesn’t cancel it.
I love the show. Please don’t cancel!
Keep it and give it a better time slot!
Love Pan Am. something different from the usual run of the mill network fare. Please don’t cancel it. For me it is a must see and I would miss it.
It would be a crime to cancel Pan Am. In the Golden Era of episodic TV, Pan Am is the only one on the Networks that I watch, and Love. The rest are all on showtime or AMC. Yes, there is Harry’s Law, but that is getting weak. The Stlylish sets, Wardrobe and hair, along with the 60’s backdrop and good talent make this a entertaining Sunday night nightcap for me. The Kennedy thing is currently riveting, and soon I believe there will be a Beatles motif, as I know they flew Pan Am on their first ‘Ed Sullivan’ Visit… Read more »
Pan Am is one of only two shows that are “must see” in our house. ABC, bring it back and give it a reliable weekly airing instead of on and off. And a better night than Sunday.
Tired of seeing abc cancel good shows because you have a young tv viewing audience that
Wants to watch garbage reality shows that show their values are in the toilet. And, please
Do not blame the older generation. Your choice. Pan am is a fabulous show. Clean and
Wholesome. Please, keep it going. Look how long you kept cougar town on! Insulting.
Are people really that dumb? Poor scripts. Poor acting. Pan am deserves better.
I won’t watch it any more. It is not wholesome. They have introduced homosexuality into it. I have stopped watching it.
Joy- Seems you are prejudice. Homosexuality is a FACT OF LIFE and surrounds us all every day. You are entitled to your opinion and there are millions of us who DO like the show and will continue watching.
Soooo, how do you explain the Sunday night success of the Sopranos, True Blood, Entourage, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, etc. I know they are all cable shows, (HBO), but regardless of the venue, few of these shows were light fare and all require vested audiences. Poor scheduling and weak plots hurt Pan Am, (who puts a brand new show up against Sunday Night Football?), and I don’t care who is in a show or what it’s based on, without a hook, viewers loose interest.
Do not cancel the only show I look forward to. First Playboy was cancelled and I enjoyed that one and now they want to cancel Pan Am. I lived thru this era and it brings back good memories. Keep it on!!!!!!!
