NBC has decided to bring their freshman drama, Parenthood, back for a second season.
Parenthood follows the joys and challenges of the Braverman family from Northern California. The large cast includes Lauren Graham, Peter Krause, Craig T. Nelson, Bonnie Bedelia, Mae Whitman, Miles Heizer, Erika Christensen, Sam Jaeger, Dax Shepard, Joy Bryant, Monica Potter, Sarah Ramos, and Max Burkholder.
The show got off to a positive start in early March with a 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demo and 8.1 million viewers. The numbers fell to a 2.6 and 6.1 million viewers the following week and dropped even further in week three.
These past few weeks though, Parenthood seems to have settled in to a 2.5 rating and about 6.3 million viewers. That typically translates into Parenthood either sitting in second place or tying for first with CBS’ The Good Wife in the demo.
NBC says that the drama appeals to a high percentage of households with incomes over $100,000 in the key demo and adds about 30% more audience when the time-shifted viewing is figured in. Considering the rest of NBC’s schedule, it’s no surprise that they’ve renewed Parenthood for another season.
The peacock network will announce its 2010-11 schedule on May 17th. Its expected that the Parenthood will return in the fall (rather than mid-season) and keep its current timeslot.
What do you think? Are you glad that Parenthood has been renewed for a second season?

love this show! the only show we make sure to watch or dvr!! so glad NBC gave it another season!
Thanks so much for renewing PARENTHOOD ! This is my favorite show.
So many times, the networks do not give shows a chance, so glad you are giving this one the GO ahead.
I wish you’d use some other method (I don’t know what method is used now, but doesn’t seem accurate) as far as determining what the public really wants.

Thank you very much.
Having been a big fan of Lauren Graham and being in withdrawal over the ending of Gilmore Girls, I was thrilled to see this show. It has a great ensemble cast and the intersecting and intertwining of the family’s lives is very well done. I’m glad to see NBC is giving the show a season two. Looking forward to the continuing trials and tribulations of the Bravermans.
Parenthood is terrific. I love the show. Great characters and story line. Looking forward to the next season.
Best show I have ever seen.. cant wait for the second season to start..:)
I love this show! It is so amazing. The storyline with Max, and Jabbar is SOOOO cute. Lauren Graham is amazing as is Peter Krause. There is so much more of their lives to tell so I am so glad they got Season 2
One of the most interesting TV shows I’ve seen.
thanks so much for it coming back for another season, and I hope for many more !!!
This show is high quality commercial TV. It is well acted. The story lines are interesting. The characters are well drawn. The cast is mostly great.
It should return and we should hope that the quality remains at same high level for season 2.
My husband and I have both REALLY enjoyed this show, and are delighted that it will be renewed for next season… and more to come, we hope.
I am a big fan of the show. It often made me smile, laugh and cry because it portrays family life so realistically and mostly in a positive way. The infidelity and the revenge infidelity were totally wrong, and did not belong in this show. BUT, I am glad that this show did not take the path of Life Unexpected. The pilot of that show was almost perfect – well written , well casted , well acted – showing great potential. After the pilot, very, very few scenes make me smile, laugh or cry. I often cringed. So much negativity… Read more »
I just love this show. The characters, the acting, the pathos. Lauren Graham has been a favorite of mine since Gilmore Girls. She’s a gem. And Craig Nelson (he was a riot in Coach) and Bonnie Bedelia are wonderful, as is the rest of the cast. I hope this show is around for a long time.
One of my favorite TV shows I’ve ever seen. They display parenthood, family, and Asperger’s/Autism better than many shows I’ve seen on primetime. I’m so glad it’s back! Hooray!
One of the best TV shows in years! Excellent, love it!!
