The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
Perception is a great show & I’m so sorry it was cancelled. TNT wants something “edgier”, which we all know means “smuttier.”
That is a big NO I don’t think Perception should have been canceled. It is a great show and one of my favorites!! I sure hope another network or cable station picks it up. They should have cancelled the dorky Rizzoli and Isles show. I watch R&I but come on, it is half serious and half (stupid) funny. I love Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander but the show could be a lot better. My mother would call it light entertainment. Perception made you think and gave you a look into a highly functional paranoid schizophrenic’s life. It also taught you… Read more »
Keep Perception please!
Why would you cancel this fantastic show!!! It’s one of my favorites! PLEASE RECONSIDER! I can not see the show not getting picked up by another station. Not your best decision TNT!! Please Bring it back!!!
Perception is my favorite TV show, I am praying another network picks it up! I love the different spin it brings to a detective show, not another like it! So many fans, how can they cancel such a great show? It stinks the way they left us hanging, thanks TNT for leaving us all out to dry!
I would watch Perception on any channel. It is one of the few shows I really enjoy. I cannot believe TNT would cancel it and yet keep Legends which is very difficult to follow not to mention the story line sucks.
Love Perception…so disappointed it was cancelled. I would watch it on any network hat airs it.
Please find another channel for Perception. It’s a great show. So tired of hearing about new reality shows. We are dumbing down society. Please, Please keep intelligent scripted shows going.
I hope someone else picks it up. This is a very good show . Please bring it back!
I love the show! One of the few that is intelligent and exciting. Someone please pick up this show.
Perception is one of our favorite shows. It’s well written and intriguing. There are too many mindless shows on tv that need to be taken off, especially reality shows. I hope if TNT chooses not to bring it back that another network will pick it up.
Renew it! And…yes, I would watch it on any channel! I love this cast.
What a shame to cancel such a smart and witty show. TNT is making a HUGE mistake!! I hope someone is smart enough to pick up this brilliant show.
Such a good show should not have been cancelled. Maybe one of the other stations or Netflix will pick it up.
I love this show. Probably the smartest first person show on tv, great cast with cohesive chemistry, interesting stories, interesting hallucinations and a fascinating look into how our brains work. It shouldn’t be cancelled…it is my favorite show. Something interesting, informative and not cookie-cutter…can’t just be dropped. I’ll watch it wherever it turns up.
