The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
Perception was on of the best shows on TNT. It’s a shame they cancelled it. I’m a fan of Eric McCormick and felt he did an A+ job in his role. The series itself was also unique. Shame on you TNT!
ARE YOU KIDDING ME! THIS SHOW WAS AWESOME.
Really will miss this show. We liked it a lot.
I love the show. I will miss it a great deal. Great follow of Rizzoli and Iles. Would watch t on any channel.
Loved the show! BIG mistake for TNT to cancel. Would watch on another channel.
quirky but well worth watching. we really like mystery and even though there isn’t much the stars perform well and fill the the time slot far better than many shows still airing. would watch on any other channel or time slot
This so disappoints me!!! I really like the show Perception and am so hoping tey will bring it back, even if its on another network!!!
My husband and I are both quite upset this show has been cancelled. We have found it to be quite engaging, fun yet suspenseful at times. We’ HOPING that another station will consider picking it up….
Love this show. Will definitely watch on another channel
I finally found a show that keeps me intrigued until the last minute and now it is cancelled. I am rethinking my satellite subscription since such a good show won’t be returning why pay for shows I don’t like? Cancelling Perception was a big mistake and was just about the only reason I tuned to TNT.
Big mistake to cancel also big mistake for kate too marry ex
I think when the writers do things just to go against what everyone would like to happen that they lose viewers. If they had of found a way for Kate and Daniel to get together they would have retained more viewers!
I would watch it on another network. They should support loyal followers for once. They gamble with “new” and forfeit those who will stick with the quality they have already found. Is it greed to keep chasing the next big thing?
I agree Perception should be renewed, It is a really great show, love all the characters. One of the better shows on TV. Don’t know what the network is thinking.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this show!!!! Please help save this show!!! There’s so much more left in story lines for all the characters!!!
I am very upset to learn that the show has been cancelled. Might TNT change it’s mind?
What could be “edgier” than a show portraying a schizophrenic who has hallucinations that help solve murders? Or by edgier, does TNT mean bloodier and more violent? Too bad.
This show is intelligent, funny, and unpredictable, by far better than most TV these days. I’m disappointed in TNT.
Couldn’t have said it better. One of fthe very few primetime shows I watch on TNT. Don’t even bother with demographics because, since the recession seniors are the ones with the $$$$$.
