The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
This was a smart show and one the whole family could agree on. Sorry to see TNT continue to make these bad decisions, they canceled Franklin and Bash and now Perception. There’s reallynot much left on this channel to watch so if they put new shows on I won’t know about them because I won’t be watching anything on this network. Oh well!
I enjoy this show. It is different than a lot of what you see on television. It is smart and we’ll written. It is nice to see a show that portrays a person with mental illness in a positive way. TNT made a bad decision cancelling this show. I’m tired of the garbage they put on TV these days. I don’t want anymore reality TV shows. I want something that doesn’t insult my intelligence.
I’m riveted to the TV. Perception is one of the finest dramas I’ve watched in the last 10 years. I love the characters and was depressed when the first two seasons ended. Couldn’t wait for third season. Just saw second episode last night and the intro said the season finale. I was confused until I just googled as to why. I’m shocked the program wasn’t renewed. I rarely watch TV other than the news. I’m extremely disappointed this is going off the air. I hope it will be picked up by another network, but am not counting on it.
my husband and I are disappointed that this series is ending. Perception is one of the better shows on TV. it seems like the good ones do not stick around anymore ! Too bad. Give it a new home !!
I think it is terrible to cancel this show, especially when there are so many bad shows on. I hope they will find a new home for it soon.
Very bad idea gettinbg rid of this show. Thereis a lot bad shows on t.v. this was a really good one.
I can’t believe Perception is not coming back! I love this show, it’s funny, thought provoking, and good plot lines. I hope another station picks it up, because it’s worth picking up!
I really enjoy watching this show and will miss it. It is completely different from anything else on TV. I hope ABC will find a new home for it.
I think I will cry 🙁
I am from South Africa and enjoyed watching this series on our local network. It challenges a person on so many levels. It is sad that it has been cancelled. Was looking forward to more well written and acted episodes. Please renew it for another season or two.
I truly enjoy this show! I look forward to each and every season if this show! I cannot believe it is being cancelled! Eric McCormack is fantastic as Daniel Pierce. He is wonderful in his depiction of someone with a mental illness leading a very productive life. I didn’t care for the Kate & Charlie spin but every other character and situation and plot is and has been WONDERFUL!!!!! LEAVE IT ALONE!!!!
Take Legends – leave Percrption!!
Please do not let this smart, creative drama go by the wayside!
My husband and I really enjoyed this smart, quality drama. We were dismayed to hear that this is the final episode.
Were another network to pick it up, we’d be tuned in.
It’s one of the best shows on tv, well written. They should definitely keep it!!!
I understand when a series is cancelled because a lead actor/actress will not sign a contract. What I do not understand is how TNT made this decision. The number of viewers does in fact justify renewal. The plots are solid and interesting and keep you watching the entire hour. The end of each show is not predictable and one is often not sure whether Pierce is actually seeing and hearing someone or whether he has entered a deluded state. TNT most certainly could include one show that challenges the viewer’s intellect. This is a really bad decision.
