The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
My favorite show!!! I can’t believe you are even thinking of canceling it! I would watch it on any channel!!!!! We intellects need to have something to watch, EDGY is OVER RATED and boring.
I have watched “Perception” from day one. It’s a fantastic show and I think that the cast worked very well together. It really is too bad that TNT doesn’t realize how great a show they had. Hopefully, some other network will pick it up. Maybe Netflix will look into it. There is so much garbage on tv, that every time a good show gets cancelled, doing something other than watching tv looks better and better. You network execs need to go back to making shows that matter.
I am so disappointed that this show is ending and after watching the series finale of the show I was horrified. I do not understand how you can end a show like this with Daniel Pierce in a worse situation than he was when the show began. They left it with major cliff hangers, such as will Daniel, Kate’s dad and Donnie ever be exposed for what happened, will Daniel be the one to expose them, or will he end up going crazy over all of it. It was a horrible ending! I don’t know what “edgy” show they are… Read more »
Perception is one of the most unique, creative, and entertaining tv shows on today. It’s terrible that it is being cancelled. Just terrible!
Sorry to see it go. Would watch on another channel.
So sorry this has been canceled. I enjoyed the show. Good shows with a different perspective are rare.
I want it renewed
I don’t think it should be cancelled. I would watch it on another channel.
I am very saddend that they cancelled this show. It is good and keeps drawing you back in . I hope they find another station to bring it back. I love the cast, they fit perfectly. And Eric does well in his roll. Why do they get rid of all the good shows and put on these bloody gross shows.
I have been watching since the first season and thought it one of the good clean cut drama series – I really enjoyed the show. It is unfortunate the network is moving to an ‘edgy’ (i.e. violence) format. I do hope some other network will pick up the show – the series finale has lent itself to continuation.
Canceling this show is a bad move. We are inundated with stupid “reality” shows and very few thought-provoking intelligent dramas. I would follow this show to any other network or online to somewhere like Netflix. Netflix, are you listening?
I also was shocked to see “season finale” with the last episode. This is a good show, I definitely would watch another season (even though I limit how much TV I watch) and I hope it is picked up by another network with more sense.
Perception is a wonderfully intelligent, creative show. It is a gem! It’s so refreshing to watch s show that isn’t like every other show on TV. Eric McCormack’s Dr. Pierce is on par with Hugh Laurie’s House. Great character, great stories. Obsolutely hate that this show is being canceled. Just breaks my heart. You bet I would watch it if it was picked up by another channel. I can only hope!
I was deeply saddened tonight with the notice that tonight’s episode was the SERIES FINALE! I enjoyed the connections Dr. Pierce made about events that were “out of the box” and multidimensional. That seems to be more the way genius works and that inspiration is not a linear process. The writers did a good job showing this correlation. I certainly hope that another network is insightful enough to continue the series for many more seasons to come!
I agree with everyone! This is a good show and should not be cancelled! I hope it is picked up by another network.
