Episode 01-02: Thursday, 9/29/11
Episode two came down 13% in the demo to a 2.7 rating and 12.51 million. It was fourth in its timeslot. The network was down by 13% year-to-year and this new series is currently ranking in the middle of the pack on CBS. If the ratings keep going down like this, it won’t take much for Person of Interest to be in the bottom tier and be in serious danger.
Season average: 2.9 demo with 12.92 million.
Episode 01-01: Thursday, 9/22/11
This new drama had some positive reviews but didn’t deliver particularly strong ratings. The first episode garnered a 3.1 in the 18-49 demographic and 13.33 million viewers. It was in fourth place for the timeslot. Year-to-year, aging CSI’s last season debut did 9% better in the demo and 10% better in total viewers.
Some commenters on this site indicated that they felt the pacing was very slow and that seems to match up with the quarter hour breakdowns. Person of Interest started with a 3.3 in the demo and finished with a 2.9 rating. While these numbers aren’t bad, they are hardly what CBS was hoping for.
Note: These ratings are collected by the Nielsen company and are the final national numbers. These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like the new Person of Interest TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?

Great Show…keep it going….
Both my husband and I love this program. But, we’re not in the demographic
CBS is looking for, I guess. Too bad, really. If it is people with money to spend that
CBS is looking for, they really shouldn’t ignore the oldest baby boomer demographic.
Person of Interest is thought provoking and based on a recent 60 Minutes episode re: security in New York City, it gave me the chills! Same technology! I hope this show continues; main character needs to show a little bit more emotion; smiling, happy, vs so sad and bland; otherwise; both men do an excellent job!
I love this Show! ! Both actors are great. CBS has to keep this show.this show better than CSI or any other show! I want to watch this show for long time.
Love the show!
I like the show and hope it stays on. Jim Caveizel is a very good actor and the premise is intriguing. It has potential as the personal mysteries of the main characters continue to unfold and the show can go in many different directions.

I love Person of Interest and hoping for a second season. The premise is exciting, the show well thought out, actors fabulous! It and Grimm are my two favorites. Please give P.O.I a chance.
I don’t understand Nielsen ratings at all, but in every article I see about Thursday night ratings at 9pm, POI is #1,so how can this site say it’s #4? Who’s beating it? Not to mention #12 out of 20 shows? Are those dramas, comedies, or both? This site just doesn’t seem to make sense. Having said that, POI is the best and I can’t wait to see how it does the rest of the way!!
Andy » The other articles are likely talking about total viewers. The numbers that advertisers (therefore the networks) prize most are the 18-49 demographic. That’s typically what the networks use to determine if a show is profitable or not. In the demo, it’s typically beaten by Grey’s, Bones, and The Office/Whitney.
As the post says 12 out of 20 SCRIPTED shows which refers to comedies and dramas but excludes reality and news programs. I hope that helps.
I think it’s the best show! Hopefully it will be re need!
I love it. Action pack. Fast moving. Wouldn’t miss the new episodes or re-runs.
Person of Interest is a thriller from week to week. We enjoy this show so much that when we saw the first episode, we KNEW it was going to be a hit! We tape the shows to watch again and sure hope CBS does keep this show. Great writing, great actors and great time slot!
My husband and I LOVE this show. It’s one of the best new shows of the season, because it’s new and refreshing and exciting to watch. Person of Interest is a great show — sure hope CBS gives it a chance.
You buy the premise so you buy the bit but I just can’t with this show. The number of people involved in preventing someone from injury are 2 (two) main people. Ordinarily it would take a team of experts to be in just the right place at just the right time at just the right second to do what’s portrayed. When do these guys sleep to be able to do all that surveillance? The dirty cop is not a character I can relate to and the lady lieutenant seems to be a ditz. I am slowly loosing interest, even the… Read more »
