NBC has been promoting Persons Unknown as a mini-series and that the show’s mysteries will be answered by the end. The show has not performed well in the ratings so hopefully the network will let all 13 episodes air.
If they do pull the series early, the show is scheduled to be put out on DVD. According to Amazon, it’s scheduled for an August 31st release but that’s likely to change because NBC won’t have aired all of the episodes until early September.
Some readers have noticed that the DVD set is titled Persons Unknown: The Complete First Season. Why? Because, though NBC has promoted it as a mini-series, Persons Unknown could continue for a second season.
Executive Producer Remi Aubuchon recently told Collider that, when they were shooting it, they did so believing it would be an on-going series. Though they wanted it to go on, he made sure that they answered all of the questions by the end of the first season, to make it a satisfying story for viewers.
Could there be another season? Aubuchon said, “It’s not unheard of, in the course of life, that if there’s enough interest in it, we could consider going a second season or doing another chapter. I keep looking at it as books in a series, and this season is the first book. I feel confident that we will have a beginning, middle and end, in this season, and it was wise of NBC to then call it what it really is, which is a mini-series.”
He continued, “24 is a really good example, in that there was a definitive beginning, middle and end for the first season. They had a slightly different format than we have, but the second season just retained Jack Bauer and a few other players, with the same basic format and idea, but it was a completely different show. I’m not saying that that’s exactly where we’re going, but certainly I think that there’s room for saying, ‘Hey, look, we told one story of a continuing saga.’ You should be able to pick this book up and get to the last line of the season and go, ‘Wow! Well, I hope there’s a second season, but at least I feel satisfied that I got to see all of this. They answered it all for me.”
Unfortunately, it looks unlikely that NBC would be interested in another season but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t return on another channel or in another form.
What do you think? Would you like to see Persons Unknown continue in some way?
This is the BEST show on TV. I am so disappointed that it’s almost over. I really hope it’s picked up for another season.
I really love Persons Unknown. Can’t wait to see more. I must be the only one who has never watched Big Brother, Survivor ect. “Reality” shows, aren’t.
Yes, I would love this show to continue. It’s excellent!!! Wish NBC had promoted it more. We only found out about it via a short blurb in a magazine and thought it looked very interesting. We’re happy we got on board from the start.
MY BOYFRIEND AND I LOVEE PERSONS UNKNOWN! WE WILL BE SAD TO SEE SEASON 1 COME TO AN END AND I CAN ONLY HOPE THERE WILL BE A CONTINUING SEASON. I CAN’T UNDERSTAND WHY THERE WERE NOT BETTER RATINGS, THIS SHOW IS ABSOLUTLEY AMAZING!
Excellent show. Will NBC let us know when episode 11 will air?
I’d strongly support producing a 2nd season– I’ll certainly watch.
To Kathy, above: Yup, people must be into stupid reality shows (to my surprise, they seem to continue on)… ABC cancelled THE UNUSUALS last season, another ‘different’ kind of show, that was terrific, too.
@Matt The problem is that NBC has a horrible talent for making up their minds on how they want the show to do before it ever airs. Just like with Kings they didn’t push in advertisement. This is a great show different from a lot of the crap that is on tv. It makes you think. NBC doesn’t care though and didn’t push for it and if I hadn’t been flicking channels that first week would never have known about Persons Unknown.
The problem is NBC didn’t advertise. No one I know has ever heard of it. It’s a great show tho. 2nd season!
Bad enough, they took off Happy Town – now it’s Persons Unknown. I really am into this show. It’s so DIFFERENT. Are most people just into these stupid reality shows? I’m sick of them. I like a real sci-fi-like mystery. BRING BACK PERSONS UNKNOWN, PLEASE!
It’s kind of compelling, kind of not. Want’s desperately to be intelligent, kind of isn’t.
It is kind of addicting. Some good acting, some not so good. Dialogue not quite up to par for a network drama. I will keep watching just to see the female journalist die a horrible death. She can take her post-Columbo boyfriend with her, that would be ok. The woman who plays the “Director” should probably go back and take some more acting classes. More subtlety in that role would work much better. Fun concept, half delivered.
Yes! It has such a great cast! Especially Jason Wiles and Daisy Betts. I would love for it to continue.
I love the show…..It leaves me wondering whats going to happen next. I would like it to continue especially since the “program” never ends.
I definately think NBC should consider continuing “Persons Unknown”. I only started watching a couple of episodes ago and LOVE it! Would like to see it have a week night slot. The characters are intriguing, especially Joe and the “director”, Dr. Angela Barragon…..she’s fascinating. Can’t wait to see more……wish I had started watching sooner!!
Love this show , would be terribly upset if it was cxld. Its a shame nbc didnt push this show all my friends that have watched it love it!
I think this is a compelling series- I want to see more. I love the scenes with the therapist.
this is a great series i would love to watch another one i saw the trailer on nbc and i couldnt wait to watch it and when i did i was amazed at how this series was going on and i couldnt believe how well they displayed it on tv i keep thinking oh that cant be done or theres no way and then it amazes me when it actually happens. if persons unknown continued (which i really hope it will) i would definatley sincerally without a doubt watch it with as much suspense and anticipation as the first.
