NBC has been promoting Persons Unknown as a mini-series and that the show’s mysteries will be answered by the end. The show has not performed well in the ratings so hopefully the network will let all 13 episodes air.
If they do pull the series early, the show is scheduled to be put out on DVD. According to Amazon, it’s scheduled for an August 31st release but that’s likely to change because NBC won’t have aired all of the episodes until early September.
Some readers have noticed that the DVD set is titled Persons Unknown: The Complete First Season. Why? Because, though NBC has promoted it as a mini-series, Persons Unknown could continue for a second season.
Executive Producer Remi Aubuchon recently told Collider that, when they were shooting it, they did so believing it would be an on-going series. Though they wanted it to go on, he made sure that they answered all of the questions by the end of the first season, to make it a satisfying story for viewers.
Could there be another season? Aubuchon said, “It’s not unheard of, in the course of life, that if there’s enough interest in it, we could consider going a second season or doing another chapter. I keep looking at it as books in a series, and this season is the first book. I feel confident that we will have a beginning, middle and end, in this season, and it was wise of NBC to then call it what it really is, which is a mini-series.”
He continued, “24 is a really good example, in that there was a definitive beginning, middle and end for the first season. They had a slightly different format than we have, but the second season just retained Jack Bauer and a few other players, with the same basic format and idea, but it was a completely different show. I’m not saying that that’s exactly where we’re going, but certainly I think that there’s room for saying, ‘Hey, look, we told one story of a continuing saga.’ You should be able to pick this book up and get to the last line of the season and go, ‘Wow! Well, I hope there’s a second season, but at least I feel satisfied that I got to see all of this. They answered it all for me.”
Unfortunately, it looks unlikely that NBC would be interested in another season but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t return on another channel or in another form.
What do you think? Would you like to see Persons Unknown continue in some way?
I really hope there is another season of this, its to good to just let it end the way it did…….BRING IT BACK
This show is the best thing I’ve seen in a long time. I really wish they would continue it and make a second season.
My question wasn’t answered as to why the company was doing what it was doing.Plus Joe and Janet should be together. There needs to be a 2nd season.
This show is fantastic and exactly what Ive been wanting to watch for some time now. I would hope it continues.
I would love for there to be another season. I thought it was a good mini series and was disappointed after the finale tonight. I really want to know more! I would hope that nbc returns it in another form.
There certainly was NOT an ending! The last episodes left me with more questions than answers!! I sure hope they decide to do another season…..
They kept saying”By the end of summer all will be revealed” I just watched the finale and I am more confused than I was before. They have to have a second season.
They need to make a season 2, because the way they ended this season was completely ridiculous. We’re still completely left clueless about what happened to people, what this “program” is… It would just be such a waste of time for the NBC writers to make this if that series finale is supposed to “reveal” everything. It just didn’t. Tsk tsk, NBC, tsk tsk.
Good. Season 2, please.
Love the show. Bring on level 2!!
I think there should be another season of Persons Unknown, the season finale didnt clear up anything just had more questions. I have wondered how they come up with there ratings. I never watch a show online, I just catch up on it online.
I was very impressed in the beginning – but the show lost continuity – at this point it’s such a mess, I can’t imagine them wrapping up all their lose ends by the final. I am struggling to stay focused in each aspect of the show.
I think NBC had a wonderful idea, and again it flopped. Too bad.
The show is terrible. Even if the prizes are replicas, it is still a huge waste. The earth doesn’t have enough resources to be wasting them frivolously. People suffer and die every day because they live without and we have the audacity to throw perfectly good materials off a building for fun. The people who see nothing wrong with this are the problem with our country. Waste because we can afford to? Grow up America. Its time to be more socially and ecologically minded. Or perhaps you would like to tell a two year old that he can’t get medicine… Read more »
Wrong show…you are talking about a completely different (cancelled) show on a completely different network
Andrew, you are one of the reasons why America is the way it is. Enjoy Life and it’s TV shows instead of typing a paragraph about things that you will never be able to change.
Andrew, I do hope you are talking about a different show, if not, maybe you need to lighten up on whatever you are smoking while you are watching T.V. ; D
Don’t ruin a great TV show just because NBC doesnt know how to advertise it. The only way I found out about this show was flipping channels on the night the pilot ran. How can a show have good ratings if NBC doesnt let anyone know thats its on.
I really love this series it’s the best show on TV I want another series NOW.
My husband and I would be EXTREMELY disappointed if Persons Unknown did not return for a second season…from the first night we watched it, we were both hooked to the show…and the way they ended the 1st season…who wouldn’t want to see what happens next!!!! I ESPECIALLY would LOVE to see the “madam director” get hers in the end!!!! Please, please, please bring back Persons Unknown next season!!!!!!!!!
