American Crime‘s Regina King will direct season one, episode four of the Pitch TV show, which premieres on FOX, Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 9:00pm ET/PT. Pitch follows the fictional story of San Diego Padres’ Ginny Baker (Kylie Bunbury) the first female MLB pitcher.
The Pitch TV series cast also includes Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Ali Larter, Mark Consuelos, Dan Lauria, Mo McRae, Meagan Holder, and Tim Jo. Produced by 20th Century FOX Televison, Pitch is created by Dan Fogelman and Rick Singer.
Produced in association with Major League Baseball, FOX says Pitch‘s “…aspirational element pairs perfectly with Minor League Baseball, where teams have been at the forefront of opening up opportunities to women within the game.”
TV Guide reports:
“I’m excited,” [King] said to TVGuide.com at the Television Critics Association gathering Thursday. “I think the thing that’s that very cool is that it’s baseball… It’s my first time directing something sports based. I think it might be interesting to see a female director’s perspective on telling that story.”

“Part of your job when coming in as a guest director, you’re keeping with tone that’s been established but still leaving your signature,” King continued. And what is her signature? “I would like to say the acting will be — it’s already solid — maybe more clear, fluid maybe? I’m still establishing that as a young director.”
King made her television directorial debut in 2013 with an episode of Southland. She has since helmed episodes of The Catch, Scandal and Being Mary Jane.
