Tonight, the CW airs the season finale of Privileged. While some may have been hoping for a nice happy resolutions, the TV show is leaving plenty of cliffhangers. But, will the cast and crew be back with season two to answer them?
The story of Privileged begins as Yale-educated Megan Smith (JoAnna Garcia) starts working for cosmetics tycoon Laurel Limoges (Anne Archer). She’s hired as the live-in tutor for Laurel’s twin teenage granddaughters, Rose (Lucy Kate Hale) and Sage Baker (Ashley Newbrough). Megan’s ultimate goal is to make sure that the spoiled girls are accepted into a top university. Though the twins seem to have every advantage, it’s no easy task. Others in the cast include Allan Louis, Brian Hallisay, Kristina Apgar, Michael Cassidy, Rizwan Manji, Alice Greczyn, Stacy Barnhisel, Melissa Ordway, Ignacio Serricchio, David Giuntoli, John Allen Nelson, Dave Franco, Ally Matsumura, David Monahan, Sharon Lawrence, Andrew J. West, and Steven Culp.
Despite positive reviews and plenty of buzz, Privileged debuted on September 9, 2008 to 2.64 million viewers and a 1.2/3 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. Those numbers were nothing to get excited about, even by CW standards, and the demo numbers were particularly disappointing based on the show’s projected audience. The ratings dipped a little in week two but then fell significantly to just 1.81 million and a 0.8/2 for episode three.
While the network has made multiple attempts to boost the show’s audience by giving it more exposure, rerunning episodes in various timeslot, most viewers just don’t seem to be particularly interested. Last month, Privileged hit a series low of 1.12 million viewers and a 0.5/1. That’s less than half of its premiere numbers and a loss of over 40% of its 90210 lead-in audience. Looking at the whole season, Privileged has averaged less than two million viewers each week.

With numbers like these, it looks almost certain that Megan and the Bakers won’t be back for season two. The network has fewer hours to fill than the three big networks, just renewed six other series, and has several promising new shows to choose from for the fall — including a Gossip Girl spin-off and the Melrose Place revival.
Executive producer Rina Mimoun knew the odds going in to the season finale but didn’t want to throw in the towel. She told the Boston Herald, “I refuse to go down. I did not want to wrap this puppy up because wrapping it up is signing your death sentence. So, hopefully, we’ll build some momentum… We definitely want to keep the audience on their feet and wanting more.”
The finale will certainly leave viewers wanting more but the ongoing problem is that there just aren’t enough of them. Will Mimoun’s gamble pay off or just leave viewers hanging forever?

I love this show! I seriously hope it comes back! And if CW is worried about competing time slots run it when 90210 and OTH are over!! Please bring it back!!!
If you want closure read the book
I absolutly can not believe the best show of last year is not comeing back. the writing was brillent ,the women were delightful, the settings were captivating, the girl who plays Meggen is classic like some of the history figures of there time like elizabeth Montgomery etc.. What is wrong with you people, there are so many shows that are not worth watching that stay on and this one dosent ?Like do you think you are being creative by bringing back washed up show like 90210 and melrose place, someone just has no tast thats in charge .as for the ratings… Read more »
I cannot believe trey canceled this how! I loved it and religiously watched it every week. What will happen to Will and Meghan?
There is so many cliffhangers, I don’t know how they could do this.
I too just found out that this great series will not be coming back, which is why i wanted to say that it would be greatly missed, and hopefully they will read these.I was addicted just like others and agree that they should have put it out more.90210 is not even close to Privilaged.Try to do something so us loyal viewers will have it to look forward too.
I love this show it was awesome bring it back please the reason why it didn’t do so good it’s because they put it on air when 90210 and one tree hill and this other good shows were playing and people had things to see already. Bring it back
Me and my mom were just looking for it to record it to our DVR and it was not there we were sooooo upset this was an awesome real life down to earth good family show that me and my mom would watch together please bring it back or at least do it on dvd so we can buy it!!!!!!!
I am truly disappointed that the show isn’t continuing. I’m completely hooked too, it was the time slot that got me, though.
I could never watch it when it was played, so i always watched online. Even watching it on their website, i still loved it!!
These people can seriously act too! i’m so sick of seeing all those shows with people that can’t do anything. The story line, the people, and JoAnna Garcia was adorable. I agree that it would be a complete mistake if it was cancelled. i was so looking forward to a 2nd season!!
Privileged was an awesome show! it always left you at the end of each episode wanting to know what happens next week! It needed to be advertised more. Gossip girl, OTH, and 90210 are advertised every other commercial on the CW. Not bringing it back will be a mistake!!!!!!!!!!
Im from england, and i am truely hooked on this show. i have watched 10 episodes in 3 days. Thats how much i love the show.
This seriously needs to bring out a 2nd series. If not im always gonna wonder what happens with will (total hottie!). Plus will charlie come back ect ect.
The point of this is… I must come back or you will be making a huge mistake!! maybe next time CW need to advertise it more. In england its advertised loads and thats what got me watching it! 90210 sucks in comparison. Bring back Priveleged!!!!
I really want priviledged to come back on… it was like a little out take of my life as a Nanny just a little higher more dramatic scale… it helped me get through weeks at work thinking it could be worse!!!
THis was one of the few shows that I was extremely happy to get back but you have taken that away. So please if you bring any show back bring this one.
oh, PLEASE bring back Privileged! It is an AMAZING show!
