Tonight marks the season finale of the Proof TV show on TNT. Will this series that’s focused on death manage to stay alive and see a second season? Should this drama be cancelled instead?
On Proof, Doctor Carolyn “Cat” Tyler (Jennifer Beals) recently lost her son, saw her marriage end, and become estranged to her teenage daughter. Cat is persuaded by cancer-stricken billionaire Ivan Turing (Matthew Modine) to search for evidence that death is not the end and this takes her on a deeply personal and emotional journey. The rest of the cast includes David Sutcliffe, Joe Morton, Edi Gathegi, Caroline Rose Kaplan, Callum Blue, and Annie Thurman.
The series debuted on June 16th with a 0.37 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.66 million viewers. It was a pretty mediocre start for a TNT series. The ratings dwindled downward over the course of the season though they saw a nice bump upward last week.
The season is currently averaging a 0.31 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.12 million viewers. It’s one of TNT’s lowest-rated scripted series in the demo and is in the middle of the pack in viewership.
With ratings like these, the cable channel could go either way. It could easily be canceled or renewed. If the finale does particularly well, those ratings coupled with last week’s numbers might be enough to tip the scale towards a renewal. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Proof TV show on TNT? If you ran the cable channel, would you cancel or renew it for a second season?
My daughter(25) and I love this show! The actors are great and the story line is unique, with just the right amount of drama. We usually don’t get to watch it live but DVR it for later.
I love this show also!!!
Hope it comes back next season!!!
Keep It. You Got a Winner Here. Less Violence.
My daughter and I love this show! The actors are great and the storyline is unique with just the right amount of drama. We don’t usually watch it live, but DVR it to watch later. We really hope it gets renewed.
This is a great show with a great concept and we should allow it to continue…
I “love”, “love”. “love” PROOF. It’s a great and thought provoking series, Please renew it !!!
I loved the series and feel it should be given the chance to grow and build on the stories. Networks need to give shows a chance. With 500 channels of stupid commercial and bad tv, this show is very refreshing and the subject matter intrigues me.
I want many more seasons of this wonderful series with the incredible cast and crew!!!!!!!!
I didn’t even hear about it until the final two episodes were airiing. Suffered through the iPad version of episodes 1-8 so I could watch episodes 9-10 live. I think the finale was the best episode yet!! Renew!!!
Intriguing. Well acted, very interesting topic … bring it back, please.
My wife and I love the show and look forward to the show each week. Hope there is a season 2
Please renew this show. I enjoyed the intelligent premise and the discussions it generated as a result–and it’s not the same old tired plots, stupid reality shows, and shows where every other sentence is about sex.
One more season. Let’s see if it goes somewhere
I ended up loving this show. Please bring it back.
I love watching Proof. Within the last year I have personally been reading everything I can find on NDE’s to find my own answers. This show fits right in with what I have read. Please renew this show and thanks for a wonderful first season.
I really loved this show! It is intelligent and engaging. I sure hope TNT give it more of a shot than one season. Many of the best shows struggled in their first seasons and needed to build a following. With all the fluff on TV now it is so refreshing to watch thought provoking and intelligent shows. Please TNT don’t take this off the air.
Please keep this show, I loved every minute of this show, she did a wonderful job as a doctor, a realist and did everything she needed to due to get proof, that is why it’s called proof. Please do not cancel
I love watching Proof every week. I have watched it every week since it’s premiere. It has characters that you can care about and a compelling storyline. How many shows have that these days? Please renew this drama for a second season. It’s just getting started!
