Over the past year, TNT really cleaned house by cancelling several of their drama series. They’re supposedly now favoring “edgier” series. Does Proof, a show that focuses on death and the afterlife, fit with that new strategy? How will it do in the ratings? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Stay tuned.
On Proof, Doctor Carolyn “Cat” Tyler (Jennifer Beals) recently lost her son, saw her marriage end, and become estranged to her teenage daughter. Cat is persuaded by cancer-stricken billionaire Ivan Turing (Matthew Modine) to search for evidence that death is not the end and this takes her on a deeply personal and emotional journey. The rest of the cast includes David Sutcliffe, Joe Morton, Edi Gathegi, Caroline Rose Kaplan, Callum Blue, and Annie Thurman.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
8/18 update: If you ran TNT, would you cancel or keep this series?
9/24 update: TNT has cancelled Proof after one season. Details here.
Final season averages: 0.31 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.12 million total viewers.

What do you think? Do you like watching the Proof TV series on TNT? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
PROOF is an enjoyable show. Jennifer Beals brings a level of honesty, maturity and convincing realism to her role that is rare in current TV fare. The rest of the cast does a good job as well in creating characters that are both believable and interesting. I look forward to watching it every week and hope it sticks around.
Proof is a good show… Keep it!
love, love, love Proof! Please renew it for another season.
PROOF takes a refreshing spin on the “Is there something beyond?” question. Many (good) shows operate from the premise that it’s just a fact. Here we have a physician (I.e. person of science) approaching the issue from a scientific perspective. Sure enough Ms Beals is not a real doctor and this is a scripted drama, but written and played well enough to entertain us as it navigates between the opposing shores of YES & NO. I will be happy to the series go beyond one season, and suspect the key to success will be in not ever completely answering the… Read more »
Please renew Proof. There are not alot of shows on the air with the concept of life after death. Great acting and most of the stories are good. I will watch in the future and have been spreading the word. Love Jennifer Beals. So happy to see her every week. Looking forward to the last two episodes. Getting good and mysterious.
Proof should be renewed. Jennifer Beals is great along with the rest of the cast. It’s a wonderful show.
Starting to really like it! Hope it doesn’t get cancelled; (
Ouch. BIG drop in ratings. I’m clueless about the renewal chances for this one.
Renewed Definitely especially after this episode 8 and the one next week. Getting very
intense and exciting.
Proof is a keeper. It’s smart, groundbreaking and thoroughly entertaining!
I enjoy the show…I hope it gets renewed. It’s not your typical medical drama and I like Jennifer Beals and Matthew Modine.
I love the show and hope that it is renewed. Although a recommendation would be to soften Dr. Tyler’s demeanor. She comes across way too harsh and skeptical. But please bring the show back.
I think TNT should definitely leave the show Proof on the air. It Is a groundbreaking series that explores the possibilities that so many people think about. I love the show and hope it stays on the air. But I think softening Dr. Tyler’s demeanor would be so much more pleasing.
Proof is a keeper and I luv Jennifer beals character. Bringing race into this is just unnecessary imo.
For people of color, a day without encountering an issue with race is rare. Those who don’t live it don’t or choose not to understand.
Completely agree! And the show is reflecting Jennifer Beals own mixed race heritage. If they liked the show, they were liking a mixed person, THEY, just didn’t know it. Troian Bellisario who plays Spencer on Pretty Little Liars has a biracial mother and a white father. Do mixed people have to start giving disclaimers because it makes some people nervous that other people assist outside their ‘white-only’ lenses? Seriously!
