A couple of years ago, Edward Burns appeared in a TNT limited series called Mob City. It didn’t perform very well in the ratings. Now, he’s back on the network in a much bigger role — as an actor, director, and writer. Will Public Morals be a success for Burns and the cable channel? Cancelled or renewed for a second season? Stay tuned.
Set in early 1960s New York City, Public Morals revolves around the professional and personal lives of the members of the NYPD’s Public Morals Division. They enforce the vice laws that are still on the books but that no one wants to enforce — prohibiting crimes like gambling and prostitution. The large cast includes Edward Burns, Michael Rapaport, Elizabeth Masucci, Katrina Bowden, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Wass Stevens, Keith Nobbs, Austin Stowell, Patrick Murney, Lyndon Smith, Brian Wiles, and Cormac Cullinane.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
Final season averages: 0.15 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 880,000 total viewers.

What do you think? Do you like watching the Public Morals TV series on TNT? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
I saw the first three episodes and I have to admit it was pretty good it’s a side of the New York City Police Department that I knew existed and probably still doesand a social underbelly of people it looks into their livesand it let you know that there are other classes and groups of people out there that are not so good
I lived in NYC for many years and Public Morals really does a good representation of the cops. Believe it or not, on New Year’s Eve at Times Square, they were the best. Such fun.
Just watched all 10 episodes over the Labor Day weekend. I absolutely loved it. Great story line with great actors playing awesome characters. A lot of action, suspense and drama. Really hope this gets renewed for a 2nd & 3rd season and many more to follow. Ed Burns did an amazing job.
I’d skip this one if I were you. The dialogue was so bland and the overacting was irritating. Another cop show but this time in the 60s. Why?
There wasn’t one likeable character. Epic fail.
Just watched 9 episodes of Public Morals, never found the pilot “On Demand”, absolutely love the series even without the initial info on all the characters. Will probably watch it through again to catch anything that we may have missed. Can’t wait co the next season. Please bring it back.
We loved it and are watching on demand as I write this.I hope it is renewed.
I watched the first show live and was excited to see the next three. I watched the other 3 on demand the next day and am hooked. Love all the characters and the acting is top notch. I can’t wait to see where this goes. Definitely needs to be picked up again!!!
Absolutely love this show. Have I seen these story lines before, yes I have but it’s always interesting and intriguing to watch time pieces. Never gets old to me. Def going to be tuning in. Great acting in my opinion.
Loved this show – Glad to see something fresh – have watched all on Demand – Each show better than previous one. Hope it lasts…
I liked it. It reminded me of how Woody Allen uses NYC as his backdrop. Ed Burns does that here. The NYC of the 1960’s is a major character in this drama and I love seeing it. I wonder how he got some of those awesome shots. Apparently, the scene in the car with his son – is EXACTLY WHAT ED BURNS’ FATHER SAID TO HIM at that age. I LIKE it A LOT.
I liked it, too. As for too many characters….. I find a show w/just a few pretty boring.
Sorry, forgot to mention… I didn’t like the hats on the men inside buildings… I grew up in the 60’s and NO, this just didn’t happen! Hats on in a building is disrespectful.
I grew up in the 50’s and hats inside are ok for me. There are so many more disrespectful happenings in other shows.
I couldn’t get through the first episode. Too many characters and I didn’t care about
any of them. The show is pedestrian.
Well I watched the “pilot episode” and I really liked it. Really good program am looking forward to this season’s episodes … my opinion, thanks …
The first episode was disappointing. Since they have eps. 2-4 available online I wanted to give it a chance. After ep. 3 I was done. Boring, predictable, been done before, didn’t care about the characters. Waste of normally good acting talent. If they were suppose to sound like NYC’ers they failed. Another failure in TNT’s attempt to provide more gritty/edgy series in hopes of attracting the younger demo. All their latest original series have been terrible.
After watching the first episode…..I think it’s grossly overwritten and way, way overacted. I’ll try it again but, I don’t have much hope for it.
I like Ed Burns and I like this show. I hope it lasts.
