Many medical dramas have succeeded on television and many more have failed. The Pure Genious TV show is a bit unique as it mixes medical cases with high tech. Is this a winning combination for CBS when it comes to the ratings? Is this TV series worth watching? Should Pure Genius be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Pure Genius follows top medical professionals as they team up with cutting-edge tech experts and try to push the boundaries of modern medicine to save lives. Doctor Walter Wallace (Dermot Mulroney) is a disgraced but brilliant surgeon who is recruited by a young Silicon Valley tech billionaire, James Bell (Augustus Prew). Wallace learns that Bell is harboring a secret and he begins to question just what the young founder is really trying to achieve. Others on the team are played by Odette Annable, Reshma Shetty, Aaron Jennings, Ward Horton, and Brenda Song.
Pure Genius debuted on October 27th with a 1.05 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic with 6.23 million viewers. It was not a good start and the show’s ratings have gotten even worse. The second episode dropped to a 0.88 rating with 5.37 million.
The numbers have risen and fallen a bit over the course of eight episodes that have aired so far. The show’s averaging a 0.9 demo rating with 5.39 million viewers. Pure Genius is currently CBS’ second-lowest rated scripted TV series (behind Elementary, which airs on Sunday nights at 10pm).
It’s already been revealed that CBS won’t be ordering any more episodes for season one of Pure Genius. Though the network hasn’t cancelled the show, it’s highly unlikely that CBS will be bringing it back for a second season either.
Pure Genius is off the schedule for the holiday but will return in a special timeslot on Sunday, January 1st, at roughly 9pm (it may be delayed because of football). The remaining installments will air on Thursday nights at 10pm. Right now, it looks like the (likely series) finale will air on January 26th.

My family loved this show! Great cast, intriguing stories…each week kept you excited to see what the next episode would bring. It was refreshing to find a new show with a positive message that actually left you feeling good about the human spirit. Please don’t cancel it! It just needs to be on a little longer for people to become aware of it.
CBS must be crazy for getting rid of this show it’s the only good thing they have who likes reality shows
Pure Genius is an incredible show. Its futuristic take on the medical doctors, Give people hope and encouragment even though its fiction as most tv shows are. For the young people of the world, it gives them a look into what could be the future of a Medical Career choice for them to make a difference saving people’s lives. I hope you won’t cancel this show. I’ve watched every episode and have enjoyed them all. Great cast, a lot of chemistry and they make it believable.
Love Pure Genius! Seems like shows which appeal to intellect, emotions and human (opposed to Super Human) qualities without violence & ‘in your face sex’ are cancelled. Give Pure Genius a chance to grow into a show that people can enjoy watching with their families. The acting is great. The show is intriguing.

I think the show is wonderful and is full of awesome medical advances that are happening and close to happening in real life. Yes, eventually the writers will run out of things to write about but that is seasons away. Seeing the medical field from a doctors perspective is eye opening. Showing their love and compassion for each patient is beautiful and up lifting. The show has good values. It is not full of murder, cussing, and is family friendly, which is not something that can be said about most shows on TV at this time. We need more family… Read more »

Pure Genius has intelligent dialog, believable characters, and engaging plots> Maybe it requires too much from viewers used to a diet of pre-digested plots and bland writing. I appreciate CBS giving this one a try, but also realize that they are a commercial enterprise, not an artistic one. If the viewers (at least those in the demographic CBS cares about) don’t watch it, ad revenue falls, and the show fails economically – regardless of its artistic merit. As an alternative healthcare practitioner, I have thoroughly enjoyed Pure Genius! I would hope the series would be back. There are some incredible technologies that could be explored in this series. I work with SCENAR, NutriEnergetic Systems & Trinfinity8. Of the 3, SCENAR has FDA approval. I have ALWAYS been a believer that if man can think it, it can manifest. I have witnessed what was thought impossible to become possible!!! Pure Genius is such a wonderful vehicle to explore the possibilities!!! I truly hope it will return!!!
