Court will soon be adjourned for the Mark-Paul Gosselaar drama, Raising the Bar. TNT has decided to cancel the series after two seasons but, there may still be more to come.
From executive producer Steven Bochco, Raising the Bar revolves around a group of law school classmates who work on opposite sides of the courtroom. The drama’s cast includes Gosselaar, Gloria Reuben, Currie Graham, Melissa Sagemiller, J. August Richards, Jonathan Scarfe, Teddy Sears, Jane Kaczmarek, Stacy Hall, Natalia Cigliuti, Paul Joyner, Wayne Lopez, Jon Polito, and Angel Oguendo.
Back on September 1, 2008, the series premiere attracted 7.7 million viewers. That set a record for TNT as the biggest audience for a new series launch on regular cable. Unfortunately, much of the audience didn’t return for later episodes which averaged 5.5 million. Despite an early decline, TNT renewed the series for a second season.

On June 8th, season two of Raising the Bar attracted just 3.6 million and shed half of the audience of its lead-in, The Closer.
As a result of the low ratings, the cable channel has cancelled the legal drama. Via a statement, a TNT representative said, “Everyone at TNT had a great experience working on Raising the Bar with Steven Bochco and the rest of the show’s terrific cast and crew. We’re proud of the series and appreciate the efforts of all of the creative people who were involved. Unfortunately, ratings for Raising the Bar’s second season did not reach the levels required for TNT to renew the series.”
TNT had opted to split the second season into two parts. The first dozen episodes finished airing on August 24th. That leaves three episodes on the shelf. It was expected that they would air in early 2010 but they haven’t been given airdates yet.

Raising the Bar was a great show. So was Caprica on SciFi. The way the networks screw with scheduling you don’t know if a show is still running or between seasons. . .what is a season anymore? I’m completely frustrated with modern TV; 10 episode seasons with 9 months in between seasons and 5 episode split seasons with ? months in between. Give me 47 minutes of content in a one hour episode and 17 – 24 episodes in a season and I’ll be happy! Quit trying to be tricky and think you’re going to capture market share. This is by far one of my favorite shows on TNT. I can`t believe that you would take this
show off the air… I was so excited to see session#3 and it just vanished without a trace. I think we should all call are Lawyer`s within this in-justus… 🙂 Please bring back the show and give it another chance.
We (my wife and I) loved Raising the Bar. This was almost the only show we watched regularly. We especially loved Gosselear! We loved the lawyer series and the characters in it. Shame on you for canceling it!
I am so saddened that the wrong people are in charge of what is watched on TV….these dumb reality shows suck balls and shows like RTB really portrayed real life for some people. TNT should know better…maybe cut down on the NBA games a bit…maybe cut down on the re-runs too…and air shows that REAL people watch. I am a real TNT fan, so please do what you should to keep me and other interested in watching your channel and continue to air shows that really speak to the heart or real life for that matter.
Can’t believe this show has been cancelled – why does this always happen to TV shows that are remotely intelligent. Stop dumbing TV down!!! Broadcast Season 3!

I am so sad Raising the Bar was canceled. I did not know about this until I started hunting to find out when it would return. Cable tv needs to know how to get the correct viewing numbers before canceling a show. What makes a hit? There was a large audience for this program, do we millions not count? With all the stupid reality shows on network tv, we grownups need cable to give us great programming like Raising the Bar! Shame on you. What are you going to replace it with? More garbage????

The networks are what are killing the good TV shows. Raising the Bar, V, Rubicon, etc., RIP! First of all, changing or rescheduling TV times are what kill good TV shows. I know every time one of the shows I watch each week is rescheduled because of other “compelling TV” events, elections, holidays, whatever… its hard to get back on schedule because the networks will hold “notifying” viewers when the next episode will air….. viewers are left to “guessing” and by the time they realize the show is back on, the rating have dropped. I loved the show and would have liked to see more of it. I don’t know why viewers stopped watching. I hope they play the remaining episodes from season 2 and if there were any episodes for a season three, I would love to see those. If nothing else it should be made available on the TNT website for viewers who did enjoy the show.
OMG finally someplace to vent, I’m so glad I’m not the only one disappointed with the cancellation of such a great show in my eyes. Not many things on television captures my attention these days, but that show had me from the first time I watched it, that’s when I was hooked. I have been wondering what happened to this series as well! I love Gosselear in everything that I have ever seen him in ESPECIALLY Raising the Bar. I love the lawyer TV series and I was so hooked on the this show and it really saddens me that I will not get to see this show in the future!
