The short-lived show Reunion, created by Jon Harmon Feldman (who also created the prematurely cancelled 2003-05 series, Tru Calling), centers on the lives of six friends. The show premiered with the murder of one of the friends at a 20-year high school reunion. The series then followed the criminal investigation in the present, while flashing back to the characters’ past — one episode covering one year of their lives, starting with 1986 and working forward to the present.
To date, nine episodes have aired and 13 have been produced. Production was halted after the show was cancelled and its 13 episode original order (up to 1998, eight years before the murder happened) were completed.
As a result, viewers were left hanging. Creator Feldman said that, because of the nature of the show, it was unlikely that the killer of Alexa Davalos’ character “Samantha” would ever be revealed.
In December, Feldman said “The show was intricately plotted over 22 episodes to tell the full story of our characters’ lives (and deaths). Because the events of Samantha’s murder are partially reliant on characters we haven’t yet met — and events we haven’t yet seen — there is no way to solve the mystery of her murder without being able to complete the full arc of our story through present-day.”
Despite an outpouring of fan support, it doesn’t look like the show will be resurrected but a FOX executive has given a clue as to the identity of who the killer was (probably) going to be.
At the recent Television Critics Association press tour, FOX Entertainment president Peter Ligouri discussed the show’s premature finish. Ligouri shared, “Reunion was particularly cumbersome in terms of trying to provide an ending for the audience. How [creator Jon Harmon Feldman] was laying out the show to gap those additional years was an incredibly complex path. There were a number of options, and he didn’t make a definitive decision on which option he was going to go with as to who the killer was, and there was just no way to accelerate that time.”
He went on to say that the network and the show’s writers talked about several options for the killer’s identity, but “the best guess was (at that particular time) that it was going to be Sam’s daughter,” whom she had given up for adoption in the first episodes. The exact reason for the murder remains a mystery.
Despite the show’s failure to find an audience (averaging 4.3 million viewers), Ligouri said FOX won’t shy away from trying unique forms of storytelling in the future.
“It is regrettable when stories end before their time. I don’t think that should stop us from being ambitious with serialized storytelling. We put these shows on and we’re going to continue to put these shows on every year with every good intention to end them, but eventually the audience votes.”
if you don’t intend to finish a show, then why show it in the first place. you could’ve ended on the 20th episode. i think a lot of people were watching, and sometimes shows just need a little time to pick up. i think a lot of people are upset, and i’m one of them. it’s unfair. it should be aired. atleast to have a decent ending.
Every week I was waiting to hear that this show was coming back – you can’t leave people hanging- zbring it back!!!!
I am so disappointed. I’ve been watching Reunion for the past couple of months now. I missed a week or two and came to find that they started all over from the beginning? I was quite puzzled. I just watched the 1991 episode AGAIN making sure I don’t miss a beat for when the finale comes. (I live in Korea.) Well, I got quite antsy having watched all of these for the second time and decided to look up what happens on the net. I could hardly find ANYTHING! Then finally I stumbled upon this site to find that it… Read more »
i want reunion back!!!
we deserve to know how it ends… we need to watch more episodes…
we want reunion back!!!
If it consisted of only 22 episodes, why don’t they finished the whole series. It is a great series! Please continue with the remaining episodes. I live in latin america and have seen so far until the year 1996 (and learned that there are two more episodes). We (the fans of this series) shouldn’t be kept without knowing who and why she or he killed Sam.
COME ON!! you cant cancell a show out of the blue without telleng us who the killer was. Its mean.
Best show on television in a long time. I remember watching the episode when the identity of the murder victim was revealed. Had me fooled until the last few moments of the show. Shows like this don’t come along too often, and the network should be ashamed for cancelling it. The actors were great and it left you wanting more. The plot twists were intriguing!!!
Samantha’s daughter as the killer? Hmmmmm….we never even saw her grown up! and never found out of Will knew he was the father.
Very sad it had to end….it was enjoyed by many!
Are you SERIOUS???? It’s really NEVER coming back???
I watched it RELIGIOUSLY!!! Perhaps they should reconsider…..
I am really anoyed that reunion has been cancled, i really enjoyed watching it, and am anoyed that i will never find out who killed samantha.
when they make shows like this you cant expect viewers to just forget about it.
So i sugest they at least show the rest of the season.
Reunion was one of the bast shows on Fox. How could Reunion make it going against Donald Trump Show and CSI. I fell that is why Reunion didn’t make it. It was very disappointing to me. At this point I just want to purchase the whole box set. When will that be available. Thanks!
I miss Reunion. I have every episode tapped. I am really shocked that it has been cancelled. Every episode was exciting and unpredicable. I could not wait to watch. I will think twice next time Fox has a new series come out. I did not enjoy having Reunion cancelled before it ended. We don’t even know why Will decided to become a priest. Why was Craig faking being paralyzed. Everyone had interesting story lines. Not just one or two characters. I could’nt wait to see what had happened and what was happening to all of them. I am very disappointed… Read more »

I was hurt to find out that reunion wasn’t coming back on. I was a loyal fan, and with DVR I was able to record it and watch it later when the kids were a sleep. I agree that it should have been put on DVD for those of us who were interested.
