Rizzoli & Isles fans were shocked to learn that the series was coming to an end after its seventh and final season on TNT, and the cast is filming those final episodes now.
Sasha Alexander spoke about the end of the series in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. She is directing one of the final episodes of the series this season.
She spoke about what it felt like filming the final episodes with THR. She said:
“The great thing about television is that, it’s sad that it comes to an end, but it’s also the beauty of it is that it continues to live on. We’re in syndication now so it’s going to continue to have its run and to be seen by more people in the years to come. To be in the tradition of that is very humbling. I’ve been on other shows that have gone on to do that from Dawson’s Creek and NCIS and shows that really, truly go on to live in the zeitgeist of television and I feel like our show has done that. The shows that I grew up on like the Cagney and Lacey’s and Three’s Company’s were such a huge part of my growing up, and I feel like Rizzoli & Isles has been that to a lot of people that have followed and have stuck with us. We’ve been really fortunate to have such a long run so I’m very grateful for it. I think everything that comes to an end is always sad but it’s also the start of something new. It’s a bittersweet thing.”
Even with the series ending, Alexander revealed that she would have been open to another network saving the show from the Grim Reaper.
Are you sad to see Rizzoli & Isles end? Tell us what you think.
I will miss the series. The entire cast works, on an ensemble and individual actor level. Harmon and Alexander have developed an on-screen best pals togetherness that is going to be missed. Having said that, and the fact that I will miss new episodes of R&I, seven seasons is an excellent run – and better to go out on top than with acrimony and bitterness such was the case with Castle.
i am shocked to see rizzoli and isles cancelled. there isnt much good stuff to watch on television and this is the only series i have left that i watch. i am sad to see it go. have just finished watching seasons one through six and am anxious for seven to be available on hulu.
Maybe another network will pick the show up. Where’s Netflix?
Very sad to learn this is final season, this is one of very few shows worth watching with an excellent cast – we don’t need more crap reality or other shows – keep it on or go to another channel or market
I don’t understand the series being cancelled, what’s the problem. The cast seem to care for each other and the friendship between Jane and Mora is,I’m sure, the same off screen as on screen,,,close as sisters. Please try to find a way to save this series, please.
They shouldn’t take good shows like this off. It shows like the Kardashians that should b taken off. They always take the good shows off but leave the drama reality shows on.
I’ll miss the most credible detective show on TNT.
I think this show should not be cancelled. It’ the best show on TNT.
