Following a 10 episode run with low ratings, FX has reportedly decided to cancel Saint George. There won’t be a second season of the sitcom.
On Saint George, a recently divorced successful entrepreneur (George Lopez) struggles to balance the parenting demands of his All-American Anglo ex-wife and the cultural expectations of his overbearing Mexican-American mother. The cast also includes Jenn Lyon, Olga Merediz, Kaden Gibson, David Zayas, Danny Trejo, Diana-Maria Riva, Joey Pollari, and Tobit Raphael.
FX made a deal with Debmar-Mercury (part of Lionsgate) that if the first season hit a certain ratings threshold, the cable channel would be obligated to order a second season of 90 episodes (similar to the Anger Management deal).
The sitcom debuted in March to 1.21 million viewers but the ratings quickly fell in subsequent episodes. The season (now series) finale drew just 651,000 viewers. As a result of the low ratings, FX has opted not to order a second season.
Though Saint George has been cancelled, Lionsgate is open to working with Lopez again. FX and Lionsgate are currently working on another 10-90 series, Partners. Starring Martin Lawrence and Kelsey Grammer, the comedy debuts Monday, August 4th.
What do you think? Did you like Saint George? Do you think it should have been cancelled or, renewed for a second season?
Transparent social and cultural re-engineering agenda, trying to pass itself off as TV “situation comedy”. Really mediocre and overloaded with crude, heavy-handed ethnic, racial, gender and social stereotypes. It was Norman Lear who really pioneered this pompous, self-righteous crap. But at least he had some knack for snickering gutter dialogue. George Lopez is just a more low-grade “Norman Lear wannabe” on this project.
Exactly, this was a waste of air time, he got too big for his own head.
They should of tried letting them have a 2nd because they would probably have more ratings.
Didn’t give it a chance, horrible mistake.
We’re really going to miss the show. Loved it! We were waiting for the next season. Sure wish it was coming back. It was not advertised enough. We found it quite by accident.
What a great show it was. I have been waiting to hear about season two coming out.
Bad news…
I thought the show was funny
Very disappointed
The first show I watched, had George waiting for an electrician. When the electrician comes, he rings the bell and George and another man who was Mexican answered the door. The electrician was a white man. The script, had the white man ask for the home owner, insulting George and the other guy by thinking that neither one of the Mexican men could possibly be the owner of that home. That was ridiculous to me. No business person white, black, brown or yellow would do that. It was just another attempt at calling all white people prejudice. It seems most… Read more »
We gave the show a try, but it just wasn’t funny. We’ve heard all those same jokes on George’s last sit-com. Saint George was OLD and TIRED before it started. The story’s plots/situations on Saint George were meant a couch in a THERAPIST’S office and not for television.
yes, this show was not funny at all…
they could renew the old George Lopez Season that got cancelled after season 6 and it could be a hit for we know..but instead they came up with not so funny saint GL! -_-
Until next time, ese!
