TNT has announced that their Holly Hunter drama is coming to an end. Interestingly, it wasn’t exactly the network’s decision. But, regardless of who’s responsible, the fans will have to wait quite awhile to see the story wrap up.
Saving Grace focuses on a police detective, Grace Hanadarko (Holly Humter), wo’s great at her job but finds her personal life far more challenging. The series also features Leon Rippy, Kenny Johnson, Bailey Chase, Laura San Giacomo, Gregory Cruz, Lorraine Toussaint, Dylan Minnette, Bokeem Woodbine, Mark L. Taylor, and Tom Irwin.
The show debuted in July 2007 and attracted 6.4 million viewers, making it the highest-rated cable premiere so far that year.
Season two’s debut attracted 5.2 million and, this past June, season three’s return drew just 3.5 million. TNT remained very positive about the series, likely because it consistently rates first with adults 25-54.

Last season, the network ordered a second season of 15 episodes. The first nine aired during the Summer of 2008 and the other six began running last March. TNT ordered the same number for season three and the first grouping finishes its summer cycle this Tuesday.
According to THR, TNT wanted to pick the series up for a fourth season but Fox TV Studios actually declined the offer. The drama is an expensive one to produce and there’s apparently not enough profit in the cable deal for the studio to continue.
A spokesperson for Fox told Variety, “In today’s rapidly changing television world, shows need to drive revenue off too many sources in order to be profitable for all the partners. Unfortunately, the economics of the series mandated stronger international and ancillary revenue than the show was able to generate. We thought an appropriate ending after three extremely successful seasons was the best outcome for all parties involved.”
Since the series has several ongoing storylines, Fox and TNT agreed to produce three additional episodes to wrap up any loose ends. The network will combine them with the remaining installments from this season and hold them until next Summer. So, fans will get some closure to the series but they’ll have to wait a few extra months to get it.
Michael Wright, TNT’s Executive VP head of programming, is sorry to see the show end. In a statement, he said, “The show’s continued success is thanks to the amazing talents of Holly Hunter and [series creator] Nancy Miller, along with a tremendous ensemble cast and a highly skilled production team. They have taken us on a unique journey, and we look forward to seeing where it will ultimately lead.”
What do you think? Are you ready t say goodbye to Grace Hanadarko? Would you like to see the cast return, perhaps in TV movies?

Does anyone else remember what happened with “Cagney and Lacey”? There was such a viewer write-in that CBS brought it back. There have been other series that have been resurrected in the same manner. It’s also quite possible that FOX will resurrect it within their own network’s line-up. The write-ups that I’ve read indicated that it was an expensive three-party arrangement with TNT. Makes one think… perhaps even hope???
The show that TRULY SUCKED was Saving Grace, I know what they were trying to say but, watching a drunken tramp sleep with everything that got in her way even the DEVIL, was not my idea of entertainment !!!
i don’t think fox shouldn’t have taken grace off cause there was alot of people who watched grace every week and the new shows that fox has put in there place sucks . i won’t watch fox like i did cause there are no new shows worth watching the new ones suck.

This is in response to Melinda, for your information Hawthorne, and most especially “THAT DUMB ASS SHOW WITH ANGIE HARMON” ARE GREAT SHOWS!! of course if people like and enjoy watching an alcoholic tramp drinking and sleeping with anything that comes i front of her? well that’s just sad………..Cause Saving Grace, was not that inspiring . Inspiring were shows like “The Cleaner” and Touched by an Angel”(no longer on t.v.) BUT THAT IS INSPIRING!!!
You don’t think that God’s love for Grace, with all her faults, is inspiring? YOu may be “Miss Perfect” but most of us aren’t; Grace’s relationship with Earl changed her and brought hope to the rest of us. I don’t drink and I don’t sleep around but I do have faults and if God can love Grace, then He will surely love me too. That’s not inspiring? The only difference between Grace and all of those who met the “Touched By An Angel” team is that those people had fleeting moments and miraculous conversions. Grace, like many of us, required… Read more »
They save “Hawthorne” and now that dumbass show with Angie Harmon to name but two, but, get rid of something that might actually inspire a thought like Saving Grace did. People would actually rather watch fat people get thin – wow – thought provoking. Should I have pudding or, ice cream? Let’s definitely not think about anything that might actually alter anyones’ thinking. These are the same people that cause traffic to come to a standstill over someone on the side of the road with a flat tire. Proof positive of the dumbing down of America. Incredibly sad.
Fox Ha What can i say, you are a very lets put it this way DUMB network, Saving Grace was one of the best shows you had on and you blow it . The new shows you are trying cannot come close to what Saving Grace ( Holly hunter and the rest of the cast ) bought to TV . Your worried about how much money it cost .Sad that you are like that ,but what else who we expect from a Network like you . Reailty shows are the dumbest thing on your network and i can not even… Read more »
Grace plays the Oklahoma lady perfect. By the way, Handaroko, is spelled Andaroko, it’s a town in Oklahoma. They eat at Johnny’s, a great hamburger place in Oklahoma City that has been around for over 40 years. The cops names are names of towns in Oklahoma. Earl is a great angel. I hope they keep the show. I love all the OU, Boomer Sooner stuff…and the mention of the streets in OKC. I loved the show with Barry Switcher. And love the longhorn “hate.”. OKC is a great place to grow up. There is more to the state then the… Read more »
Margaret, I agree with all that you’ve said…I grew up in OKC and still visit there as often as possible. HOWEVER: the name of the city is spelled ANADARKO and you can learn about it here: Anadarko, Oklahoma – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
That isnt grace there carrying out of that fire cmon people, thats the devil dudes body. Its gotta be
I was very moved by the season finale; sad to see the show end. I am wondering about the people (besides the regular cast) who lined the street when Grace’s body was brought out–who were they? Were they survivors of the Oklahoma City bombing? Police, firefighters?
i’m not very happy with how they are just taking saving grace off the air. because their have been plenty of tv show that they have continued too air that suck and they continue to force those shows down our throats. if it offends people then they just haven’t open there eyes to relaity and what is really going on in the world.
I agree with Mary, the last 3 disgusted me in them she was shown to be nothing but a drunken tramp feeling sorry for herself until the last one she finally accepted it.
The wrap up shows did not do this show and holly hunter any justice the plot was disjointed the last few shows stunk and not due to holly hunter sure left me up in the air FOX SUCKS
you will be stupid to take off saving grace. I love the show.
Sherrie, they have already done it. The phrase is not “You will be stupid” – It is already gone. They ARE stupid and greedy and do not care how we the viewers feel about it, at all.
Leave it to the Fox network to abolish a good TV series. Nothing they say, or do, makes any sense. If they can’t backup our president, why would they backup a TV Series!
Most reality shows stink, but then I guess Fox gets the people that show up on those shows, on a really low budget.
I for one will miss seeing Saving Grace. It was a unique show!
People don’t support the president cause he’s an idiot , WTF are 14yrs old or what
