Animation producers (and spouses) Allison Abbate and Tony Cervone recently stopped by the Radio Rashy podcast to talk with animation writer/producer Paul Dini and his wife, actress/magician Misty Lee.
A lot of the discussion revolved around Abbate’s work on Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie feature film but Cervone, who’s a supervising producer on Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, mentioned the Cartoon Network series.
Cervone said, “There are 11 shows left that will finish the series off at 52 episodes. I’m not sure when they’re coming back. I never know when they’re coming back. If I had to guess, probably in the summer because it usually airs in the summer. But I can’t wait for these last 11 to get out for people to see them because they’re crazy.”
At 2011’s ComicCon, Cervone and fellow supervising producer Mitch Watson teased that events in the pilot episode would pay off in the 52nd episode. We now know that will be the series finale.
One of the most recent episodes, which aired last fall, featured appearances by classic Hanna-Barbera characters Blue Falcon, Dynomutt, Race Bannon, Doctor Benton Quest (Jonny’s scientist dad), and evil Doctor Zin. It turns out that Doctor Quest created the Dog Wonder!
Though Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated won’t be returning for a third season, it’s a safe bet that Scooby and the gang will return soon.

o.k, first of all, they could bring it back and have them meet mr.e, the real mr.e and they could solve mysteries along the way like they said in the series and then they come back and fred and daphnie get married and they go back to crystal cove and stay there till they decide to travel the world solving mysteries.
Dear little fella, I was born and raised on scooby doo starting with the origianals to everything new. My son is 3 and we bought him the orig. “where are you scooby doo” “the scooby do movies”. Now in stating this I wanted to point out my 27 years of scooby experience. I thought the season 2 ending was perfect for setting up a new plot and keeping the series going an ending like that over and over could of kept this series going for ever we loved it. I have watched Scooby Doo since it first came out and I want my children to grow up watching it. You left my Fiance and speechless at the end of season two. It was a great twist at the end but also made us hope for more episodes. We think that most of the new cartoons aren’t the same as they were back in the 90s and we would only hope that one of these days somebody will realize that Scooby Doo should be a cartoon for all generation. I have always been a faithful watcher of Scooby Doo no matter the show or movie. Ever since I was young the gang has been my favorite even though I’m now in college. Please bring back the third season. Especially with such a cliff hanger!

PLEEEEEEEEEESE bring back Mystery, Inc.! My husband, daughter & I (mom) watched every single episode and loved it! You’re keeping us hanging wondering the next stat everyone makes after Fred finds out his dad really wasn’t his dad and so on. I watch the original Scooby Doo’s when I was little, as did my husband, and not only has our daughter seen every single episode, because she loves Scooby Doo, she also has the Scooby Doo DVDs and watches them over and over and over! I loved Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. at first I hated it but grew to be a favorite of all Scooby genres. Why no one would do season 3 is crazy. It”s popular and the ending in season 2 set up season 3 perfectly. For the time being I am enjoying the Be Cool Scooby Doo vids. Again at first I hated it. The characters were drawn sharply but I love it now. It is hilarious! Maybe the most funny for a long time. Don’t know how long these will last so Please somebody do a Season 3 of SDMI!! Soon!
I’m not sure f it’s production costs that have brought it to an end? The animation is excellent and feels like an updated version of the originals. The shows in between looked weird. Continuing with this format would be a brilliant idea and my kids and I would certainly watch it!
I hate it!!! It’s the best version of the show since the original. Bring in season three and please stop with the new horrible knock offs.

I agree, even my son who JUST turned 3 last week loves SDMI!!! The whole family like to sit at the end of the day and watch a couple of episodes before bed time. Please oh please bring it back….
