The Star Trek worlds are merging. TVLine reports Star Trek: The Next Generation alum Jonathan Frakes will direct an episode of the upcoming CBS All Access TV show Star Trek: Discovery.
Frakes played Commander William Riker, the USS Enterprise’s first officer, on The Next Generation. The syndicated series ran from 1987 to 1994 and also starred Patrick Stewart, Brent Spiner, LeVar Burton, Denise Crosby, Michael Dorn, and Wil Wheaton.
Since The Next Generation ended, Frakes has directed a number of TV shows, including Castle, NCIS: Los Angeles, and The Librarians. Now, he is returning to the franchise that started his directing career.
