CBS has decided to order additional seasons of Sunday night staples Undercover Boss and The Amazing Race. Boss will be back for season three while Race will return for season 19.
You may recall that Undercover Boss became a huge hit for CBS last year after a post-Super Bowl debut. Season one averaged a whopping 4.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 14.62 million viewers. This season has come way down, but is still averaging a very respectable 3.1 demo rating and 11.52 million viewers.
The Amazing Race’s fall season averaged a healthy 3.3 rating in the demo and 10.93 million viewers. The current season isn’t doing as well, averaging a 2.6 in the demo and 9.24 million. That’s down by 16% in the demo when compared to last spring’s season averages of a 3.13 rating and 10.31 million. For now, Race is set to return in the Fall. A spring season looks to be up in the air for now.
CBS reportedly hasn’t determined if both Boss and Race will remain on Sunday nights but it seems likely since the network is touting how well both have performed opposite Sunday night football on NBC.
An official announcement from CBS is expected soon.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear these shows have been renewed? How long do you think they’ll last?

The big question with Undercover Boss will be how long they can make a sale of the story “A reality show with two people competing for the same job”.
At some point (if they haven’t already) employees are gonna catch on to the idea that the guy who shows up for one day of on the job training is a bit more than just an employee.
I like the show but I just wonder why workers wouldn’t have caught on to the deal by now?
Because it’s staged, LJ. This is TV. Come on.
I would love to see Amazing Race go on forever. I get to travel worldwide from my couch. What does annoy me is the football and basketball games preceding Amazing Race. I inevitably have to remember to add extra time on to Amazing Race because those sports game are never finished on time. I don’t know CBS continues to have this show on a 8 pm knowing full way it is going to go on later.
