It looks like fans may have seen the final televised episode of The Cape last night. The NBC series has been struggling to get good ratings for some time and is one of the lowest-rated scripted serieson the network. Though it hasn’t been officially cancelled yet, The Cape is highly unlikely to be renewed for a second season.
A month ago, the network cut the first season from 13 to 10 episodes. When that happened, NBC also decided to delay the return of The Event by one week, presumably to allow the final two episodes of The Cape to air on February 28th. But that didn’t happen. Rather than pre-empt Chuck two weeks in a row (last night and next week), NBC just ran one episode of The Cape. Next week, The Event returns.
What about episode 10, the season (likely series) finale of The Cape? The network has apparently decided to release it online only. A small notice on the NBC site reads…
Flash: The creators of The Cape are prepping an exclusive episode just for online fans! Keep watching this site in the days ahead to see a full-length special episode.
There’s no word yet as to when the episode will be released but we’ll keep you posted.
What do you think? Does it matter to you that NBC won’t air the finale on television? Do you think it will be back for season two?
UPDATE: A network rep has confirmed that the finale will be released online only, sometime in March.

I think that NBC should keep The Cape and get rid of some other shows. I mean, The Cape has a great story line: a dad trying to clear his name and get back to his family. Not to be mean or anything, but I don’t get Chuck. I mean, he’s a guy that knows a bunch of secret spy stuff. Not at all as interesting or anything else as The Cape. NBC needs to THINK. Of what I’ve watched, The Event isn’t even that good, and neither is Chuck. If NBC wants to cancel shows, cancel those.
I’m 74 and I liked The Cape, It had a story and it had a message, good vs evil. Instead the networks choose to run unreality, Rereality Shows that teach that bad behavior, back stabbing, cheating and lying get you MONEY and FAME, could that have something to do with why people act the way whey do? Rude, cheating, lying? Its a sad world and it has nothing to do with MY age. It’s the REALITY of today!
NBC should be assamed of themselves!!! Why would you put the last epsoide of a show on line. And then tell us to keep looking for info. on the last show to see when it comes on.
I was sorry to read that the Cape probably won’t return. I really enjoyed this show. Further confirmation that there is no room for quality entertainment. Please tell me who watches that show “What would you do” Please get a life! I guess I will go for a drive and risk life and limb watching the cell phone talkers and texters. First, I will put on my Cape! I feel better already!!
Lastly, I feel that Chuck has worn itself out….we get it, Chuck is a secret spy,
NBC needs to end shows once their “will they, won’t they” couples end up together (i.e: Chuck and his partner, Pam and Jim from the Office (hell they even had a baby together already))
I hate NBC for doing the cancellation without conclusion tactic. They did it with My Own Worst Enemy and it looks like they’re going to do that with The Cape. Seriously, “So you think you can dance?” is better off? I’m not gonna downplay the biggest loser since it does have a positive effect unlike the majority of reality shows. I think SyFy needs to pick up this show (and many others) because NBC only stands for News, ********, Comedy (though its about damn time a 6 year mockumentary ends its run, Outsourced and Community are good, 30 rock is… Read more »
I was instantly a fan. I will be extremely disappointed if it does not come back for a second season. It was a fun show with a good story. Something different and entertaining.
NBC do the right thing and air the final episodes and give The Cape one more season.
32 years old and still a kid at heart.
Sincerely,
The Cape Fan
This is a great show, creative, fresh, and a new twist. I loved comic books as a kid and I think this show deserves another season!!!!
Just want to add my voice and disappointment with NBC’s cancelling of the Cape. They cut the order from 13 to 10 episodes and if this wasn’t bad enough, they dot even care emough for the viewers to at least show the 10th and final episode. Wonder why they are even behind the cable nnetworks in ratings?
I was hooked by the Cape. I guess at the age of 75 I will have to start buying comic books. Now, we get just what we need, more stupid, disgusting reality shows. No wonder that cable is killing network TV.
I cannot believe NBC is doing it yet again and cancelling a GREAT storyline. Yeah, it’s fantasy, so what! We all need a little ‘escape’. Perhaps it will get relegated to a cable channel, that would be great!! In the mean time to those ___________s in charge at NBC, thanks for nothing!
Never fails. NBC will give comedy trash the floor rating or no rating. But put a real gritty show on and stick it on the lame Monday night and let’s not even give it a season. Let’s give NBC another reason to lose viewers. Put the show on another night before you kill it. Cape is interesting. Better than crappy Smallville, who doesn’t know if its the Blur or Superman. For once stop being the Not So Funny Network, and stick to something that is not overpriced and confusing as the Event. Let the Cape breath, without the 2012 world… Read more »
I think this show has potential, but not with NBC. The Peacock has a history of bad calls under its belt and I don’t think they’ll renew it. That is not to say, however, that The Cape could not find a new home elsewhere. I think it would probably be better off on one of the cable networks where this kind of show not only survives, but thrives.
Well I can see from the comments that I’m not the only one who is once more disgusted with NBC. No wonder people do not want to watch new programs, they get cancelled without giving those who did watch it, the chance to see a proper ending. Lets get rid of some of the reality shows on tv – the apprentice, hell’s kitchen, biggest loser, etc. The only good reality show is Survivor (sorry to all those who don’t like it). This is going to be just like the show LIFE, I’m still waiting to see who set him up. Keep… Read more »
I’m with you..still hating they got rid of my man Charlie Crews!
AGREED!
Those of you who didn’t like The Cape, are being unfair to those of us who did like it. I agree with those who said if you don’t like something, don’t watch it and don’t complain about it. You will already be happy that it is being taken away from those of us who will miss it. There are way too many reality shows out there that are unfortunately getting all the ratings. I have noticed that of the four major networks (CBS, ABC, FOX and NBC), NBC and FOX are my least favorite. NBC just can’t come out with… Read more »
You people seem very simple minded, to think that because you take idiotic crap like the Cape off the air, the only alternative is a reality show. Television existed for decades without reality shows. NBC and the other networks have had plenty of great shows in the past, and will again in the future. None of us need to be subjected to asinine programming like the Cape just to avoid an equally asinine reality show. Good riddance to bad garbage I say.
