It looks like fans may have seen the final televised episode of The Cape last night. The NBC series has been struggling to get good ratings for some time and is one of the lowest-rated scripted serieson the network. Though it hasn’t been officially cancelled yet, The Cape is highly unlikely to be renewed for a second season.
A month ago, the network cut the first season from 13 to 10 episodes. When that happened, NBC also decided to delay the return of The Event by one week, presumably to allow the final two episodes of The Cape to air on February 28th. But that didn’t happen. Rather than pre-empt Chuck two weeks in a row (last night and next week), NBC just ran one episode of The Cape. Next week, The Event returns.
What about episode 10, the season (likely series) finale of The Cape? The network has apparently decided to release it online only. A small notice on the NBC site reads…
Flash: The creators of The Cape are prepping an exclusive episode just for online fans! Keep watching this site in the days ahead to see a full-length special episode.
There’s no word yet as to when the episode will be released but we’ll keep you posted.
What do you think? Does it matter to you that NBC won’t air the finale on television? Do you think it will be back for season two?
UPDATE: A network rep has confirmed that the finale will be released online only, sometime in March.

Enjoyed the show.. Hopefully, they will tie up loose end, even if on-line.. Sadly, it won’t be back.. Not the first time a NETWORK has done this to viewers, think CBS ( I think it was PIRATES – a reality show ), or ABC ( The Mole ).. Once networks are this far in ( 7 or 8 episodes ), they owe it to VIEWERS to finish/finalize a series.
I loved this show! And it was something i could allow my 10 yr old son to watch. There isnt that many shows on these days that dont have sexual related topics on them. So dosent leave to much to watch with my son. I really hate to see it go 🙁
man the cape was a sick show. im tired of all this reality tv stuff. BRING THE CAPE!!!!!!!!! well on sundays they show the cape on syfy they should come back with a second season on that network.
The Cape was really a cool show. It allowed you to believe that good will win out over evil and gave you a hero to look up too. We all need heros in our lives, especially in this day and age the way the world is. The special effects were great. I hope they air it in another time slot, on another network, or broadcast it on line. I’m sure alot of people would watch it on line and the network would not have to worry about it’s TV ratings.
I loved this show. There are so many bad shows that last for years and the good ones seem to be short lived. This news is very sad indeed.
Although the acting and music was more than a little melodramatic, The Cape was a show that kept getting better. They were building their own mythology, with a LOT of hints dropped about bigger backstories for Vince, Orwell/Julia/Jane, Max, and Peter. The villians continued to impress. I’m bummed that I was lured into yet another ongoing-story show that will likely never get to complete it’s story.
The Cape is a great show and I would hate to see it go.
The Cape has been my favorite TV show since Ghost Whisperer. Please do not cancel it, and please, please broadcast the 10th episode on television!
I liked the show, it was better than all these reality shows that are on TV. Please consider it for next year. I loved all the characters too. Very entertaining.
I am so sad that this is ending. Give it a chance, not enough episodes to grab viewers. I am in my 60’s and I have friends in their 50’s who love this program. We are so sick of the “soap opera shows” and the reality shows that glorify bad behavior. I love the escapism and a hope that just 1 person can make a difference.
Man this sucks every time i get into a show on this station they cancel it.First it was knight rider that was a show my kids and i watched together and we realy liked it then we get into the cape and now that one is canceled.Looks like i will be watching wb and cbs for now on.THIS IS A SAD STATION
We have enjoyed the cape as a family every monday evening since the beginning. We do not want to see it cancelled. It needs to have some fair advantages given new show. With smallville ending this season September would be a great time to reair the show. or pick up where its left off. Certainly, if its contract is not renewed, we need to see it end on tv.
I know it’s no longer the 60’s but we are continually paying a lot more for less. In terms of quality TV shows, we are nearly bankrupt. In the 60’s, shows began a new season shortly after Labor Day. A complete run was around 40 episodes. Unless it was absolutely horrid, it ran through, without ‘gaps’, unti lall episodes were shown. (Not to mention, an hour long show was about 55-57 minutes then as opposed to 46, 47 now). It’ s sad how a show will not even be allowed to finish off all ready completed episodes, resorting to viewers… Read more »
To Bad, I liked it because it is unique, & its not a “Realty”show theres to much of them. the Event well its to 24 & Lost & I liked lost & you can’t mix the two, it don’t work for me.
“The Cape” is a great show and I hate to see it go. I found it to be the best comic book related show since The Incredible Hulk. I hope that although there is a finale coming out online that it can may be move to a cable type network. The show was very creative and unique in many ways with good actors and production values. It’s was really the only show in prime time network TV that I watch these days. Maybe the creators can shop around or maybe they can turn it into an actual comic book.
