It won’t be long before The Crossing “crosses over” to the television afterlife. The TV show was one of the many cancelled TV shows of the 2017-18 season but clearly, this series has some devoted fans. Why won’t there be a second season?
An ABC sci-fi thriller, The Crossing stars Steve Zahn, Natalie Martinez, Sandrine Holt, Georgina Haig, Tommy Bastow, Rob Campbell, Rick Gomez, Marcuis W. Harris, Grant Harvey, Jay Karnes, Simone Kessell, Kelley Missal, Luc Roderique, and Bailey Skodje. Luke Camilleri recurs. The story unfolds in the small Oregon fishing town of Port Canaan. Tranquility there comes to an abrupt end, when 47 evacuees from a war-torn country wash up on the shore. The newcomers aren’t just any refugees seeking asylum — they’re Americans from 180 years in the future. As the hunt for the truth grows, it will change the lives of the townies and their new guests, forever.
The show got off to lackluster start in the ratings. The premiere of The Crossing drew a meager 0.94 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.40 million viewers. The second and third episodes saw significant declines and later episodes dropped as well. Last week’s installment attracted a meager 0.40 demo rating with 2.53 million.
With ratings like these, it’s easy to see why ABC decided to cancel The Crossing. It’s also no surprise that the network decided to air the final two episodes on a Saturday night.
Could the show have picked up more viewers if it had been given more time? Considering the downward trajectory of the ratings, it’s hard to make that argument. For whatever reason, The Crossing just didn’t resonate with a broad audience.
What do you think? Did you like The Crossing TV show? Would you have watched a second season of this ABC series?
Totally want season 2!
My husband and I watched every episode of this show!! Loved it ! Why is it that every time a good series starts it’s always cancelled?!!!!! For Pete’s sake bring back the crossing. Is it because there’s no drugs or sex scenes or is it just not raunchy enough for “ people’s out there” ? This is why everyone is choosing to go to redbox or just not watch shows on tv anymore.
I watched every episode of The Crossing and would have enjoyed seeing it continue. ABC’s programming is generally targeted toward women, and (not being a woman) I rarely watch anything on that network. The Crossing had qualities that appeal to both men and women, but apparently ABC didn’t like its prospects. I was also a fan of Forever, another ABC show with a supernatural theme (ran on Tuesday nights, 2014-15). It did fairly well in the ratings, and was a quality program, but ABC sacked it after one season. I don’t think I’ll bother to watch any programs on ABC… Read more »
I would have watched more of this series. It’s about individual freedoms and the consequence of exercising our choices in a society of diverse ideas and beliefs.
I LOVED this show! I recorded it to watch until the next episodes aired- and now I find out there will be NO more episodes! I usually dislike any of the sci-fi category, but this had an element of feasibility. I am so disappointed! Now we will never find out what happens to the community as they enter the general populace. What a disappointment! I guess unless it is a comic book story- and it has some imagination behind it- the executives can’t see the value in it. I can’t believe this series was cancelled!
Yes, I would have liked for the show to continued, really enjoy the story plot.
Great show with a very good cast. Another sci fi loss while rubbish reality shows continue as though charmed.
This was one of the best new sci fi shows on TV and here we go again, it’s been cancelled. The potential for development of this tale was enormous and could easily have lasted half a dozen seasons.
yes, I thought it was a good show, hope Netflix, Hulu or Amazon picks it up
I am really upset that The Crossing has been cancelled, it was just getting good! ABC is crazy to do this. This was my favorite new show on TV. I like TV programs that are different than any thing else, and this was one of them for sure, It seems all we have are zillions of cop shows, and stupid comedies. I love when the 3 networks put out NEW Summer programs. Like The Last Ship (TBS) Zoo, Under The Dome, really miss that one, The whisperers, and now The Crossing. I agree with Wendy, maybe they tuned out for… Read more »
this show was awesome good sci – fi good cast please bring this show back.
what they cancelled the crossing no way i love this show too thats why i have been wondering where it it on Monday nites bring it bring it back
We really loved this show. We recorded and watched when the series ended and then looked for Season 2 schedule. I loved the actors, the story line, the intrigue and the connection between the characters. We’re hoping another network picks it up. Come on Netflix or Sci-Fi. This show deserves a second run.
I do not have regular broadcast television because there is not to many good programs on any more. I watch several series online. I truly enjoyed The Crossing. I had to wait a week after the show aired on broadcast television to watch it on line. It was worth the wait. The story line was very intreging. there are so many ways it can go from here. Please rethink about a second season.
It seems like every new show ABC has they cancel after just 1 season. Maybe that is why ratings were down because people knew if they liked the show ANC was going the cancel it. This was a really good show but I knew they were going to do this so I didn’t even bother asking my spouse to watch it with me.
I just found it last night on Hulu. Binge watched it to completion. I go online to find out it was canceled? Netflix, Amazon or Hulu…one of them needs to pick up this series. I didn’t even know it existed until yesterday. So many of us don’t watch cable or network TV anymore unless it shows up on one of the streaming services. It will be a serious shame if no one picks it up.
