Of all the new shows this season, it seems like NBC has the highest hopes for The Event. How did the new show do in the ratings? Will it be the next Lost or the next FlashForward?
The Event follows Sean Walker (Jason Ritter), a young man who’s investigating the mysterious disappearance of his girlfriend. He slowly begins to uncover the biggest cover-up in the history of the United States. Others in the cast include Sarah Roemer, Laura Innes, Ian Anthony Dale, Scott Patterson, Clifton Collins Jr., Taylor Cole, Lisa Vidal, Bill Smitrovich, Zeljko Ivanek, and Blair Underwood.
The first episode attracted an average 3.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 10.9 million total viewers. It was in third place in both areas, though it did tie CBS’ Mike & Molly for second place in the demo in the second half hour.

This was a big improvement over last season’s Heroes premiere and built on the Chuck lead-in by 80%. That’s impressive. What’s more, viewership grew as the hour progressed, meaning that people stuck with it and new people even joined in midway.
While this performance is positive, it’s not as big a start as the network wanted. The real test will be to see how well The Event holds up over the next few weeks. AS you may remember, ABC’s FlashForward started with very healthy numbers but viewership dwindled each week and it was ultimately cancelled after one season.
But, what do you think? Do you like The Event? Is it confusing or intriguing? Will you keep watching or should it be cancelled?

Keeper, Give it some time to unfold and calm down. The creators said the flashbacks will become less frequent as the series continues. I think this show has a chance once they revile what the ultimate motive is for the “Others”
Love It!!!!!! So does everyone else I talk to. It’s intense and exciting.
Keep it. I’ve only heard positive things about it.
Keeper!
Love it!!!!!!! So does everyone else I talk to. It’s intense and exciting! Keeper and I like the time slot.
Keep it!
The Event is so intriguing to me. I love the flashbacks because it gives you a sense of what is going on. Please don’t cancel it. It is one of the best shows I have seen in years. And those of you who are looking to far into it, like wind or no wind, are not getting the real point of the show. It makes you think and we need a show like this one.
hey everyone. What the !”#% is happening in US ? you guyz are cancelling a VERY NICE tv show. It is like Flashforward, when it gets to much complicated, its better to cancel. WTF. It rly pisses me off. How can you guyz always watch tv shows where you dont hv mind *****? You just like series where you can sit down and dont use the ******* brain. God -.-‘
Are you kidding. You MUST keep it. I missed the beginninr years of 24 and when I finally watched it one time I was hooked. I AM hooked to The Event. It seems very similar and you look forward to the following week. This show could easily last the 7 years.
One of the worst scripted Sci-Fi shows ever. Third episode is just plain stupid!
I can’t believe this show was ever compared to “Lost” or “24.” It is horrible. I gave it a couple episodes, but just not worth it. Needs to be cancelled ASAP
many opinions some fair other in the Air
It makes people think — that is the audience that will stay with it and its a excellent Plot
not all who watch are capable of a challenge/
give it time to breathe and unroll /
It deserves more attention esp. locations, and plot, and good acting. RSN
I like The Event but it has too many flashbacks. Can’t tell if they are in a flashback or real time. Kill some of the flashbacks and the show will survive.
I like Sci Fi but give me a break… Why did Vicky had to pretend to drown? how come she found just the right fake boyfriend that have a broken arm and cannot swim (remember, he was not in the scam)? Why do they need the big sister if they got the little one? If they killed the boy, wouldn’t it be simpler to forget about the fake drowning and just come to the room, kill the boyfriend and take her? How did the boyfriend knew about the plane? How did he get a gun on a plane? How come… Read more »
you must not be paying attention to the show! the guy with the cast is involved. the little sister as you put it is the daughter to the girlfriend who is kidnapped not the sister. whippie who cares about the wind in one scene and not the other!! i think shows like this are much better than these stupid reality shows!! who cares what other people are doing with their lives.
stamuse, good stuff!
Ok we need to start a campaign right now to write letters upon letters to NBC; telling them how idiotic they are for canceling what was one of the most interesting shows on their lineup but nowadays if it isn’t bullcrap reality it gets canceled. Look at Kings it was by far the most compelling and well written show to come out the time it did but it got canceled to free up a slot for a reality show that itself got canceled later on. Also did the same thing happen to V because if so thats crap that show… Read more »
The Event is Lost, Hero’s, & Flash forward rolled into one. The story line was interesting,
to start but became much less interesting in the second episode. I don’t thikn it has legs.
Watched the Pilot and then decided to give it 1 more show to see if they made the show get better. I am always leery of NBC, as in my opinion, they are always following the other networks in terms of ideas for new shows. This one seemed promising but Flash Forward was a far far better show and like that one this one will get cancelled soon unless they invested too much $ in production. They may let it run for the season but the show is simply just not that good. The political charachters are way overacting and… Read more »
One word, two syllables…canceled.
At least, that’s my predication. It may not be soon given the monetary investment so far, but I doubt this will make it much longer.
