Of all the new shows this season, it seems like NBC has the highest hopes for The Event. How did the new show do in the ratings? Will it be the next Lost or the next FlashForward?
The Event follows Sean Walker (Jason Ritter), a young man who’s investigating the mysterious disappearance of his girlfriend. He slowly begins to uncover the biggest cover-up in the history of the United States. Others in the cast include Sarah Roemer, Laura Innes, Ian Anthony Dale, Scott Patterson, Clifton Collins Jr., Taylor Cole, Lisa Vidal, Bill Smitrovich, Zeljko Ivanek, and Blair Underwood.
The first episode attracted an average 3.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 10.9 million total viewers. It was in third place in both areas, though it did tie CBS’ Mike & Molly for second place in the demo in the second half hour.

This was a big improvement over last season’s Heroes premiere and built on the Chuck lead-in by 80%. That’s impressive. What’s more, viewership grew as the hour progressed, meaning that people stuck with it and new people even joined in midway.
While this performance is positive, it’s not as big a start as the network wanted. The real test will be to see how well The Event holds up over the next few weeks. AS you may remember, ABC’s FlashForward started with very healthy numbers but viewership dwindled each week and it was ultimately cancelled after one season.

Great Show. I love it.
Please keep the show alive otherwise I start questioning my intellegence. All the shows I got hooked on are not doing well. Rubicon is probably gone, Fringe’s second season was in question, thankfully it was renewed, now problems with Event. After season 1 of Warehouse 13 aired, CityTV in Canada cancelled it, I don’t hear anything about another season of White Color. What am I going to watch?
I’m hooked on this show, and on Ian Anthony Dale. Keep it!

The ending of Lost Sucked so bad…..to think we waited 5 years for such a stupid ending, The Event will be another repeat…..Just END IT NOW!!

Well it would seen we in the uk have another lost type program. With lost i was really disapointed with the ending. Having seen The Event for the first time, as it was screened tonight, the plot seems to be structured and well thought out. How ever i think ive worked out how it will end. I did the same with lost during the first series of it. For that reason i am not gong to watch it again. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE KEEP this show alive!! this is one of the best shows to come around in a really long time. It even beats Flash Forward, which was truly brilliant. Oh no, did I just compare it to Flash Forward, another show obviously too sophisticated for the average oatmeal-for-brains American TV viewer? OH NO, I’ve KILLED it!
I LOVE THE EVENT!!!! It’s interesting, compelling, great action, good acting, and MYSTERY!!! I love not knowing what is going on and trying to figure it out. I live in LA and the show has filmed at my building once a couple weeks ago and AGAIN TODAY!! HUGE action scenes taking place on my street right now which is blocked off by police and seeing Jason Ritter and the girl on the street from my window is awesome. I reeeeeally hope they don’t cancel this one, I think that would be so retarded. KEEP THE EVENT GOING!!!!!

24 and Lost feeling together and a little Heroes in it as well when/if the “others” start doing stuff. But I agree – Heroes was the best and shoudl not have been replaced.
Really hope Heroes come back in a few years … But the Event is the best serie at this moment.

The story would be stronger and more realistic if it centered around a MAN searching for his family, not some kid who lost his girlfriend/fiancee. But then your “prime” audience is the teen and twenty-something mostly male crowd, and an adult man searching for his family (including wife) wouldn’t be sexy enough for that demographic I guess. I also think the storytelling would be stronger if this WAS NOT a series, but a feature film or mini-series with an actual conclusion already written and shot. BRING BACK THE UNIT…ON ANY NETWORK! IT WAS THE BEST SHOW ON TELEVISION!
If NBC does decide to cancel this show, I hope it is either picked up by TBS, USA, or one of the other independent networks, or the last installment provides closure for the viewers that followed it. Flash Forward was one of the biggest disappointments in that no closure on the open-ended theme was given to loyal viewers and this happing again will drive me away from any future continued series on NBC.
Love the show….I record it every week so incase (which I always do) I dont get a chance to watch it ,,I have recorderd…Sure hope they have a second season!!!!
I like the Event I hope it doesn’t get canceled. I can’t wait to see the next episode.
