Of all the new shows this season, it seems like NBC has the highest hopes for The Event. How did the new show do in the ratings? Will it be the next Lost or the next FlashForward?
The Event follows Sean Walker (Jason Ritter), a young man who’s investigating the mysterious disappearance of his girlfriend. He slowly begins to uncover the biggest cover-up in the history of the United States. Others in the cast include Sarah Roemer, Laura Innes, Ian Anthony Dale, Scott Patterson, Clifton Collins Jr., Taylor Cole, Lisa Vidal, Bill Smitrovich, Zeljko Ivanek, and Blair Underwood.
The first episode attracted an average 3.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 10.9 million total viewers. It was in third place in both areas, though it did tie CBS’ Mike & Molly for second place in the demo in the second half hour.

This was a big improvement over last season’s Heroes premiere and built on the Chuck lead-in by 80%. That’s impressive. What’s more, viewership grew as the hour progressed, meaning that people stuck with it and new people even joined in midway.
While this performance is positive, it’s not as big a start as the network wanted. The real test will be to see how well The Event holds up over the next few weeks. AS you may remember, ABC’s FlashForward started with very healthy numbers but viewership dwindled each week and it was ultimately cancelled after one season.
But, what do you think? Do you like The Event? Is it confusing or intriguing? Will you keep watching or should it be cancelled?

got to keep this show on. I only watch 3 network shows and The Event is the best. Seeing Hal Holbrooke transform from old to young and then back to old and trying to figure out Sophia and her people and the powers they have are all intriguing.
I think the event is very interesting and keeps my interest through each episode. I think the acting is stellar. We have not missed an episode!
Keep This show! Its too good to let go!!!!
We can’t wait for the next episode and is the only show on NBC that we don’t miss!!!!
Luckily, we have ” on demand” so that if we out of town, we can still catch up. You do have to pay attention unlike the normal mundane shows. Cancel the event??? Crazy. Is it better to keep the inane shows on that you can sleep through and not care? If NBC cancells this show we will go back to watching shows like Leverage and Burn Notice on competing networks. No reason to mess with NBC !!!!
IT HAS TO STAY ON AIR… HOW RUDE WOULD IT BE TO CANCEL IT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SEASON!! WTF
Who are these nealson people. they get to choose what we watch. ADD must run in these gene pools no heros there thying to cancell Chuck just let the story unfold people patience people
bring the show back… it is awesome…
I LOVE THE SHOW
THEY ARE ALL IN COMPITITION WITH DWTS
I can’t believe they would cancel this show. KEEP THIS SHOW. It’s the only show I look forward to watching week by week. I was wondering what happened next. Then I found out there is no next. This is upseting they let bad shows stay I won’t mention names. Long list. Then they let a good show like this go away why. As long as there’s viewers isn’t that enough to keep it?? PLEASE PLEASE PUT IT BACK ON I MISS IT. Thanks.
The show attempts to be smarter than it really is. The time traveling sequences are out of hand, and really do nothing but confuse the audience into why they are still watching the show. The acting is terrible, and thats why it will never attempt to replace LOST. The characters are distant, dull and unbelievable. And the biggest problem of all…. WHAT EVENT?!…
I’ve stopped watching, and hopefully its replaced with something of better taste.
I love this show, at first I was very confused, but so was I very confused with lost. Please keep it on, every time I get interested in a show it gets cancelled.
All due respect to the creative forces of “The [Non] Event,” but while the writers try to weave some intricate Sci-Fi/”The Invaders”/”V”-vibe from this show, they need to understand that a commercially supported TV audience might find it a tad confusing switching back and forth time-line wise all the time– this device does not equal “depth.” Sure, “Lost” took off like a bat outta hell because people were willing to put up with a messed-up, “Gilligan’s Island” mind-eff– how else can you explain a guy who is obese STAYING large after all that time? I agree with Stephen– they should… Read more »
The “EVENT” is really an awesome show and the best part is, I can watch it on demand (on cable) if I happen to miss it or just wanna watch it again! I can admit that I have to watch it twice because I do get a little lost. This is the type of show that you have to really pay attention because you will get a little confused, but it’s all worth it : )
I would like to see “The Event” cancelled and NBC bring back Trauma. Trauma was a great show with characters that had depth.
